Shipping runs $20 for rods, up to 7 feet in length within continental USA.
7'-7'9" @ $30, 7'11" to 8 1/2' Footers run $50 outside CA and $35 within CA.

* - Rods of 8 feet and longer are VERY expensive to ship these days. But, we've been working with FedX to bring pricing back down to realistic levels. The surcharge used to add $100 to shipping costs for rods of 8 feet, we have a solution... Now we can ship 8 footers at $50 outside of CA. Within CA shipping will run $35.  Alaska and Hawaii can be higher. You will be quoted the shipping price when we contact you prior to billing.

United Composites-USA, formerly known as Graphite USA is now owned by Randy Penny - Seeker's long time production manager. His team of experienced rod makers represent some of the best in the business. That compliments well with UC, which in the opinion of many, also possesed the best designs and rod making technology and techniques in the rod crafting business.

Dual Helix Facts: Dual Helix ply construction produces a rod blank that has outstanding resistance to both crushing and twisting. This unique construction technique, adapted from the experience of aerospace activities of the founder of GUSA, is superior to the conventional rod blank "roll-wrap" manufacturing process adopted years ago from the textile industry. Two advantages are readily apparent; firstly the Dual Helix structure keeps the rod round when heavily loaded during casting or fighting a hooked fish, the Dual Helix construction adds extraordinary crush and nick resistance. The second major advantage is the outstanding resistance to twist imparted to the blank through the Dual Helix Design.

All USA Graphite and Fiberglass - Top Materials, Top Personnel, Top Designs

This is BIG, a major change coming to the sportfishing scene. It's one of those times a fellow can really smile about a new product. I've been a fan of the old GUSA rod company, firmly believing that their founder had created the best designs in rods that we'd seen in over 50 years time. The firm went through changes, the fellow who ran the firm after the founder retired ran it into the ground and failed to stay true to the designs. Peter Williams, an Australian brought the company back, and back to it's roots - stayed true to the original designs and expanded models incorporating the unique Dual Helix technology for new applications. Peter and his son could not effectively manage the firm from 10,000 miles away, depending upon some Americans to share the same commitment to the product and it's future as he held. That did not prove possible, so he took his time selling the firm trying to find the right match. (Peter still wanted access to the blanks, that was a big part of his business back in Australia). When Seeker Rods was sold, with new ownership and changes... Seeker's old Production Manager Randy Penny moved on as did his very experienced team - He didn't just move on, he bought UC!

UC benefited from the change in ownership by having an owner/operator who lived rods for most of his adult (and adolescent) life. Randy, putting it simply, knows his craft and was the true driving force behind Seeker for the past 20 years. Now he finally has his own firm, and better yet for us fishermen, the best designs in the business. Bold statement there, but it's something easy to prove and demonstrate. For those close by to our shops, stop in and feel for yourself. For those further away, have some trust in my words, I'm quite happy to back 'em up with UC's quality of design and execution. USA produced rods have always been of a higher quality than those produced overseas. The issue has been cost, labor is higher here and high quality materials carry a cost, too. Some other USA firms have gone to foreign supplies (graphite and/or fiberglass), offering lower cost but also lower quality. Some have shifted to lower quality grades of materials from domestic sources. UC blanks use the best USA produced materials in building their blanks - nothing but USA produced materials. (There's Randy - pictured in the UC oven.)

That's the background, now here's the deal. UC is now making Factory Produced Rods! In the past we've taken their blanks and had them custom built for clients (and myself). With the factory now making rods turn around time improves, and since there's only one layer of markup pricing improves for anglers, too. The FIRST production of rods is the UC Elite Composite Series. These blanks feature DUAL HELIX CARBON FIBER plus UNI-DIRECTIONAL E-GLASS composite construction. The use of uni-directional fiberglass is unique to UC's build of these wonderful rods. The proprietary Dual Helix construction prevents "ovaling" of the blank when under load. (Greater Hoop Strength) It makes the rod significantly stronger, and the way the uni directional 'glass is laid down improves the rod's lift. Also, the fiberglass runs the entire length of the rod, just as the carbon fiber does, there is no transition between 'glass and carbon as is the case with most better saltwater rods, so the action is more predictable, strength is greater. These are the lightest rods in the business, with weights as low as 12 ounces! Heck, there's a 50# stick that comes in at about 14 ounces! Their feel is simply amazing, and they have power! Without doubt, feeling these things is believing, fishing these things is a revelation and potentially expensive since you'll probably end up looking to replace your whole collection. Nothing short of amazing.

There are four different series within the UC Factory Wrapped line. One major point to bring up. Just because a rod manufacturer uses carbon fiber in building a rod, not all carbon fiber matt materials are the same. There are different grades and different weights (measured in grams per square meter). UC uses carbon fiber which is twice the strength/weight of the other rod manufacturers - double that of Seeker, Calstar, anyone. That's why their recoil is so great in comparison to other rods on the market. UC rods by design are stronger than competing products, and they are stronger by material used. Now, add the heavier and more expensive carbon fiber used to the unique proprietary dual helix construction and you have the finest rods ever produced, bar none.

Challenger Elite - Composite Dual Helix carbon fiber plus Unidirectional Fiberglass. VERY light weight, progressive action - near parabolic in bend. Available with and without reel seat, two versions of most rods, composite seat or dual lock down ALPS aluminum seats. In most basic terms, the CE blanks follow a three pattern build, 2 carbon and one fiberglass.

GUSA or US Series - The original GUSA series rods, DUAL HELIX build, no fiberglass. A bit faster in action than the Challenger series. The GUSA series rods include some old and new favorites like the Tilefish, Predator, Monster, etc. In basic terms, the US series offers four carbon patterns in the build, two types of carbon fiber, each almost twice the GSM of competing firm's rods.

Challenger Platinum - These are for the hard pullers out there, faster action (meaning you get good flex at the tip and then the rods shut off earlier than the US or CE series). The CP's make use of Dual Helix construction plus uni-directional fiberglass. There is a transition to greater 'glass towards the tip, but the dual helix construction extends butt through tip. Incorporates higher end woven carbon fiber through the mid section of the rod. Five to six patterns are used in the build of the CP series, 1 fiberglass, three different types of carbon in four to five patterns.

The Rail Rods are based upon the CP designs. These beefy sticks make use of 7 to 9 patterns in their build - like the CP's they make use of three types of carbon fiber as well as the longitudinally oriented fiberglass.

Swimbait Finatic -  Dual Helix build, light, thin diameter, power.  Rods feature split grips and fast to moderate/fast actions. These blanks follow the original GUSA designs.

RUSX CLASSIC Series
2019 New Product Introduction

Old School Style with Advanced Technology Design

WOW! That's going to be your first words after putting one of these new rods in your hands.  I'll cut straight to the chase, these are the lightest and strongest rods you'll ever fish

Based upon GUSA/US Series blanks, four ply - twice Dual Helix build, these are incredibly strong rods. But, then Randy at UC did something unexpected. He made use of high grade cork for the butt, yep the handles are made from cork and that makes these rods super light and you'll feel everything. You can feel a fish fart if that's your inclination, they are absolutely amazing.  Okay, so what's the weight?  Have a seat... The lightest rod in the series comes in under 9 ounces!!! The heaviest in the series weighs in at about 11 ounces!!!  We were flat out flabbergasted once we held one of these unique rods.  Making use of cork was a great idea, old school for sure, but so very appropriate to showcase the light weight of these all carbon fiber rods. Again, twice Dual Helix in the four ply builds - these are exceptionally strong, hard pulling rods.

Next, the cosmetics... Pictures never do justice to a rod, and these images don't come close to showing off how attractive they are. You've never held such a light rod and you've never seen such a beautiful piece of rod building expertise. I've got to say, Randy at UC has an eye for the cosmetics and he pulled out all the stops. The metallic copper wraps, copper reel hood, the unique guide-set used with copper colored braid safe insert, finishing ring... simply beautiful rods. Oh, and did I mention their weight... OMG!

At the present time these new rods are all made for conventional reels. We're encouraging UC to make them in spinning version, too.  These rods are all 7 feet 9 inches in length. The US79XF and 79F are blanks that those familiar with GUSA will remember, like the 711's they were very well thought of blanks. To add some heavier action rods to the mix the Mag, Mega, and Monster were also used in this well thought out series of rods.  If you are in the market for a light rod that's incredibly strong, fishing anything from ~15# on up to 40 or so, you have found exactly what you were hoping!

CHALLENGER ELITE
Dual Helix Composite Designs

United Composites produces four primary series of rods, plus specialty series like Rail Rods and Boat Rods. The Challenger Elite series are the most reasonably priced rods in their line. The Elite Composite Series of Dual Helix with uni-directional fiberglass blanks are three ply, dual helix build with carbon fiber and then an additional ply making use of uni-directional fiberglass. The exceptional lift these rods attain is a result of the uni-directional 'glass (UC is the only firm using this unique fiberglass in their build). Dual Helix construction provides the hoop strength, the 'glass provides the lift.  Other manufacturers use dual oriented 'glass to gain hoop strength - at a lesser degree than UC accomplishes.

These rods make use of very good quality braid safe ALPS stainless steel guides, lightweight EVA grips, and composite reel seat. The standard build rods do not have gimbals, if desired you can select the C+ version Challenger Elite rods with metal ALPS seat and gimbal and hypolon grips for $40 upcharge as described below. Please note, we also have most of these models available custom produced by our friend Salty Dawg, cost is higher but there are some upgrades.

8  foot rods are available Deckhand style or with reel seats. Pictured is the Deckhand style grip with Turk's Head.
While we do list the 9 and 10 foot models, please note you really don't want us to ship rods of this length - very expensive, very, very expensive.

All Rods Below Are Deckhand Style Rods - without reel seat, corktape wraped handles & Turk's head w/sinecord to support extended use w/corktape handle. If you want these made with reel seat and/or gimbal butt, select option above. Typically rods of this length require neither, deckhand style being much more appropriate.

One point to mention, UC's deckhand rods are skinny in diameter than most other rod makers thanks to their unique use of carbon fiber in the dual helix design. So, if you have had trouble finding a rod skinny enough to fit an Accurate 400N or 500N you've found a match. Since the rods are so skinny some manufacturers reel clamps may require shorter bolts or nuts. Avet has smaller bolts, and we have a fix for other Accurate reels.  For some other manufacturers reels you may have to build up the area where you plan to position your reel. That's easy enough, make use of some heat shrink or an extra wrap or two of cork tape. Alternatively, all UC rods below can be ordered with a reel seat. With a seat, no change in bolts or nuts is necessary, but the rod will weigh a bit more given eva or hypolon grips with seat. There is a trade-off in weight when you move away from a deckhand. This is really only a consideration on the 8 footers, 9's and 10's will have more meat at the area where you'll mount your reel so the standard screws and bolts won't be a problem.

GUSA U.S. SERIES
Dual Helix
New Models Added

These are the original GUSA designs, dual helix carbon fiber construction - no 'glass in the mix. High quality graphite is used in these rods, like the rest of the UC lineup, but more of it and no fiberglass used for these classics. Hoop strength is created through the dual helix build, so no compression of the blank when under load and far greater durability than ever thought possible on a graphite rod - stronger than fiberglass. These are light for their rating verses other rods, and they are incredibly strong. These are the rods that built GUSA's reputation for strength and lightness. In the fall of 2016 United Composites added this series to their factory wrapped mix as a new series of rods to complement the Challenger Elite, Swimbait Finatic  and Challenger Platinum series rods. As of this writing there are now 13 different models, old time favorites being produced and some new ones, too. This series will expand to include additional models as time progresses, but what's offered now are the one's folks have asked to have produced first (Randy will make the 70H I've requested in time...dang, that's one of the nicest 30# sticks I ever fished). The rods are beautifully finished, ALPS dual lockdown seats, metal gimbals, and metallic blue wraps.  Very nice rods, exceptional is a better way to put it.

GUSA or US Series - The original GUSA series designed rods, DUAL HELIX build, no fiberglass. A bit faster in action than the Challenger Elite series. The GUSA series rods include some old and new favorites like the Tilefish, Predator, Monster, etc. In basic terms, the US series offers four carbon patterns in the build, dual helix times two for a four ply rod. The carbon fiber used to build the GUSA series rods is twice the strength (almost double the GSM - grams per square inch) of the carbon used on other rods like Seeker and Calstar - nearly double the amount of carbon fiber in the material used. That provides much faster recoil than a Grafighter, energy is loaded up and released faster, and the rods are stronger with far greater hoop strength (which is the weak point on any rod under compression or a load). Much like Calstar's design progressed rod performance beyond fiberglass in the late 1990's, so too does the manner in which UC's rods are built and the material used in their production significantly improves performance for fishermen today. These are wonderful rods to own and fish for decades to come. In my own collection, the CP series and the GUSA series are very well represented, and my favorites to fish.  One pull and you'll understand why, one good fish on the other end and you'll probably find good reason to replace a few of your previous favorite rods, they really are that good.

CHALLENGER PLATINUM SERIES
Dual Helix, Fiberglass Transition - Composite Design

The Challenter Platinum Series (CP) from United Composite has long been one of my personal favorites. Here's the background, the CP series was originally designed by Peter Williams from United Distributing in Australia. It was exclusive to the Australian market until Peter purchased UC and allowed me to buy blanks, which we turned into custom rods. Now that Randy Penny owns the firm he also saw the benefit of bringing these blanks to market as finished rods - THANK GOODNESS!

Here's why we like the CP's so much, and what's different about this series in comparison to the US and Elite Series from United Composites (formerly known as Graphite USA). The CP series rods make use of upgraded carbon fiber, again used in the proprietary dual helix form, AND uni-directional fiberglass. The rod transitions to 'glass at the tip. These rods are not nearly as light as the US and Elite series - they are more like a fiberglass Calstar in terms of weight - but they are strong, hard pulling, high use and abuse fishing rods. The blanks are the strongest made in my opinion, nothing else on the market like them in terms of design and inherent strength given the production materials and design. For light weight, go Elite -  no doubt about that. But for the most demanding conditions the CP's are the best in the business in terms of lifting power and overall strength. These rods are also a bit "faster" in terms of their bend. The Elite's offer a bit more parabolic action, and that's great for many  applications and most fishermen. The CP's are faster, put a bit more power in your hands and more control of the fish on the other end of your line, too. For the experienced angler who really likes to leverage a fish, the actions of these rods will be helpful in accomplishing greater control, but you will be a greater part of the fight since your strength comes more into play. That's one aspect of a faster action rod to consider.

Challenger Platinum (CP) series rods utilize Dual Helix Graphite technology and transition to Fiberglass composite through the tip section. Rods in this series were only available in Australia in the past, now factory wrapped in metallic red,  too! For the heavier action rods, this design provides greater strength, lift, and forgiveness.) - Note, factory rods will not have the fish logo as is pictured above which shows off the woven carbon fiber used in the CP series..

Challenger Platinum (CP) Series - note the woven graphite (click on the images for a better view)

The CP series make use of Alps aluminum reel seats and gimbal, Fuji Stainless Steel guides (in black anodized finish) and hypalon grips. Deckhand style rods are also available in three line class ratings - these come only in corktape with Turk's head and no gimbal. Quality of components is very high, as would be expected on rods of this caliber. We'll see a few more models as time rolls on, and note that these models can all be made at a 6 1/2 foot length if desired.

CP's incorporate higher end woven carbon fiber through the mid section of the rod. Five to six patterns are used in the build of the CP series, 1 fiberglass, three different types of carbon in four to five patterns.

CHALLENGER EXTREME & CHALLENGER EXTREME BLUE WATER
BOAT AND TROLLING RODS

In the same family as UC's Rail Rods, the Challenger Extreme boat rods offer superior Dual Helix technology blanks to ensure the highest strength and greatest durability. Equipped with a hypalon forgrip, slickbutt rear grip and gimbal, these rods will get a lot of use by any private boater. The rods feature a stunning black base wrap with red and silver detail securing the ALPS S-6 Deep Pressed frame ring guides. The mid-range Type II rods feature American Tackle rollers (offering more clearance than other commonly used rollers - more range of use given knot diameter, wind-ons, etc). Rods are available in the standard black finish or by special order white finish. The standup boat rods feature ring guides, the RCE trolling rods are also built upon the same Dual Helix composite blanks, but feature an all aluminum ALPS UniButt and rollers.

Wrap colors are as pictured left. First production was done in metalic blue, but that's not the plan going forward. There are three groups of rods in this series, all geared to the needs of private boaters. The first are boat rods, heavy duty ring guides with slick butts (again note that the wrap color is as pictured left rather than the blue shown below). The next group of rods make use of ALPS roller guides and uni-butts (straight or curved). The last group of rods make use of the same butt options, straight or curved, and AFTCO Wind-On guides. Those rollers are LARGE, can handle the largest knots and lines without issues.

Challenger Extreme series rods are based upon the CP designs. These beefy sticks make use of 7 to 9 patterns in their build - like the CP's they make use of three types of carbon fiber as well as the longitudinally oriented fiberglass.

UC XTREME SERIES RAIL RODS

No one knows more about building rail rods than Randy Penny, he's the guy behind the 2x4's and other rods which revolutionized the SoCal's long range sportfishing scene.  Peter Williams and his son originally made the designs for the UC rail rods in 2012. Randy added a couple new wrinkles to the patterns once he arrived on scene. These are composite designs incorporating a lot of material given their intended application. Dual Helix carbon fiber build, longitudinally oriented Fiberglass, heavy Fuji triple footed guides, 3M rail pad over the grip (protection plus non-slip feature), triple wrapped, etc. All come with gimbals and cap.

The Rail Rods are based upon the CP designs. These beefy sticks make use of 7 to 9 patterns in their build - like the CP's they make use of three types of carbon fiber as well as  longitudinally oriented fiberglass.

7 and 7 1/2 foot length, it wasn't long ago that we considered anything longer than 6 feet impractical for cow fishing.  Buy times have changed and rod designs have progressed.  The length is related to the manner of fishing, use of the rail as a fulcrum.  In general, while a longer rod usually has better casting properties for distance, that's not the rational for these rods. They are made to fish the rail, especially as you get into the vertical game on a big fish.  The longer rods are more suited to the bigger boats, boats with wider rails like the Excel, RP and Rooster. The shorter 7 footers will load up better on the smaller boats, like the American Angler.  Having said that, there's another distinction between the two lengths, the longer rods have more material in 'em, the butts are larger diameter which requires more material in their build.  The 7 1/2 footers can fish the heavier recommended lines, while the 7 footers will load up better at the lighter drag settings. For example a Raptor at 7 feet does best at 60# and 20-22 lbs of drag while the 7 1/2 footer will fish 80# with say 24-25 lbs drag. You have a bit more leverage in a standoff at distance with the shorter rod, and more lift at vertical on a bigger boat with the longer rod.

XTREME SERIES RAIL RODS
UNITED COMPOSITES RAIL RODS! NOW IN PRODUCTION - RODS NOW ARRIVING!!!

Rods feature a very nice 3M rail pad on the foregrip, appropriate guides and power superior to all other rail rods on the market. LIGHTER WEIGHT, BETTER CASTING LIGHTER TIP, GREATER LIFT AND POWER - Made by the fellow who created the original 2x4 Super Seeker - if he says these are the best rail rods ever produced, believe it.

The new UC Rail Rods are quite frankly the best in the business, made by the guy that came up with the original concept while working for another USA rod making firm. The guides are Fuji's strongest, made as a rail rod should be, with some protection on the foregrip - in this case 3M's product which is darn expensive and effective (far better than XWrap or a slippery plastic material). Reel seat is from ALPS with dual lockdown for added security. The best blank, excellent execution on the build - custom quality in that regard and they are value priced since the factory wants to get these out on the water.
The Rail Rods are made on UC's strongest blanks, more graphite material used than any other - and it's the good stuff. Dual Helix construction of course. These are their best, the industries best, and they are priced aggressively. Two lengths offered, 7' and 7'6". You will find the tips light, great for casting a bait, and then the power comes on - plenty of it! Great lift, better than any other rod of this type made. The new UC Rail Rods will indeed become the standard by which all others are compared.

SWIMBAIT FINATIC
BY UNITED COMPOSITES
NEW MODELS ADDED!

For the Inshore Enthusiast, we've received the new Swimbait Finatic series rods from United Composites, the much desired UC 711's are coming off the line. UC has expanded the offerings of 711's, adding some heavier models to the line in recognition of use of some much larger and heavier swimbaits now being used by some Calico Bass anglers here on the West Coast. As well some of our East Coast Tilefish guys will find the heaviest model VERY interesting for their unique fishing style.  In 8 foot form this is called the TileFish, but here they're going to be used tossing the largest and heaviest lures to calicos, might see some wahoo duty too.  UC Dual Helix designs on all rods in this series. The 711 has almost cult like status for those fishing bass, it really was my own first introduction to UC (in those days GUSA) rods - and the memory stuck. Wonderful pieces, skinny diameters, excellent and well thought out actions.

How capable are the Swimbait Finatic rods?
Picture above provides a good answer with this lucky angler taking a very nice wahoo
on a new 400 series Komodo and United Composites Swimbait Finatic 711MH rod. Congrats Sonny!

You will be quoted the shipping price when we contact you prior to billing.

* United Composites Warranty: All United Composites USA Factory built rods come with a five year limited warranty which covers materials and workmanship. The specific details of the warranty program is spelled out on UC's warranty card which accompanies each rod, and is also posted on UC's website.

Here's my personal take on rod warranties - Over the past 15 years I've yet to see a factory defect on a rod that resulted in breakage. (Exception -  New Version Seeker Hercules, black blanks - these are "crackers" but then again they are not made by the old Seeker team - they've all left with the change in ownership) I have not broken one of my own rods...with one exception which was entirely my fault ("high sticked" a small fish and broke the tip). I have seen misuse result in a broken rod, primarily due to guys either "testing" their rod with a friend incorrectly holding a rod's tip or they have put a vertical load on a rod (pointing a rod straight up and then pulling straight down on line under load). Rods are made to load up in the horizontal plane, not vertical. This is the same for ALL manufacturers and folks fishing rods need to understand what constitutes misuse. Manufacturers generally have tried to support their clients, but costs are costs and the result of rod breakage and warranty coverage is simply higher costs for everyone. Overseas there's no such thing as a rod warranty, and honestly it makes sense. All rods can be broken if one tries hard enough or misuses their gear. Folks really should be accountable for their own bad judgments and errors - personal opinion...

Stick Jacket

Fishing Rod Covers

The Stick Jackets are a little different than the typical fabric rod covers, or any other cover that we've come across. They are made from a tough polyethylene filament that's virtually impervious to salt as well as resistant to mold and mildew. The braided material behaves much like the old "Chinese finger trap" gripping your fishing rod for snug protection against unwanted damage to line guides and rod tips.

  • prevents tangled rods

  • easy push on/push off installation

  • protects rod guides & tips from damage

  • great for boat rod lockers and rod tubes

  • breathable & will not retain water

  • impervious to mold or mildew

  • lightweight

  • you can hang rods for storage using the tough gromet at the cover's top

  • abrasion resistant and UV resistant

While the manufacturer makes a few sizes, most are only suitable for freshwater bass rods. These very useful rod covers take good care of your rod, and I'll often make use of them to both protect my rods during transport, storage and while on the boat when some rods may be unused.  Once I get home, I'll spray both the rod with cover, and then remove the cover to dry and further clean up my rods.  They do a great job protecting the rods and they do not absorb moisture. Many of the products made by this manufacturer are too small for the majority of saltwater rods, however we stock four sizes that are quite suitable for our uses. These extend down to the foregrip or right above the reel seat. They do NOT cover the entire rod. Made this way they can be used with the reel on the rod.

Big Game 6 - skinny sleeve like the red one's pictured right. Fits rods up to 8 1/2 feet long and 6 inch circumference

Big Game 7 - skinny sleeve like the red one's pictured right. Fits rods up to 9  1/2 feet long and 6 inch circumference

Spinning - This is perhaps the most useful size for the majority of saltwater oriented rods with larger guides as may be used for say 50# and up. If the guides are tall, get this version or the Magnum. If you are running spinning guides, then this is what's required. Fits rods up to 7 1/2" tall and a bit over 7" circumference. Best choice for trolling rods.

Magnum - For rods up to 8 1/2 feet long with a 7 5/8 circumference. Best for larger rods, larger guides.

Do understand these are not rod sleeves made to cover the entire rod, they are made to provide protection primarily for the guides and rod finish, made to end prior to the reel seat.

Cork Puppy

A lot of West Coast fishermen use deckhand style rods, rods with a corktape grip wrap instead of making use of a more typical reel seat with a hypolon or cork handle. The corktape deckhand rods are preferred by long-cast guys - jig fishermen, and those desiring a longer rod and longer casts. Additionally, the deckhand rods allow the fisherman to mount the reel using a rod clamp in a more custom, more comfortable and balanced position, again aiding in longer casts. One drawback of this type of handle/grip is that the reel clamp tends to dig into the cork over time. Applying that clamp's pressure over a larger area reduces the grind on the cork and allows for a more secure mount. The Cork Puppy solves the mounting problem quite well. They fit the majority of rods, and reels made. If your intent is to mount a reel (that has a rod clamp) to a deckhand rod, this product just might be a necessity. There are three sizes, measured by the rod's diameter in the area you intend to mount the reel. It's made of machined 6061-T6 aluminum with type II anodizing.

Duran Fishing Products
Problem Solved
2019 New Product Introduction

Here we go again...

One of the funnest aspects to running this business is working with new manufacturers on the way up. Duran Fishing Products is a great example, a small machining company with some very good creative ideas.  The DFP Standard Clamp is their first product, and they have another one coming soon.  For those of us who have bought or wanted to buy one of the newer low profile baitcasters, like Okuma's Komodo, Daiwa Lexa, or some other nameless bike manufacturers large baitcasters, the reel's design leaves out something that most of us want to have - a reel clamp.  It's a profound positive, a requirement, when we fish heavier line tests, and these new designed baitcasters with series drag capability are made to fish heavy. They beg for a clamp, but it's not available from the reel's manufactuer. As the line test increases, a clamp becomes more necessary. Many of us have seen what happens when a reel flies off a reel seat and breaks rod guides on it's way to the deep... A reel clamp is mandatory, not optional, should you wish to put one of these reels on a deckhand style rod.

Every manufacturer missed this key angler need, but there were a few firms that ran with the ball, at lest for a while.  Daiwa had a $55 clamp assembly, but they discontinued it. Tiburon has one, but it's only good on model of a particular manufacturers reel - isn't universal and won't work on lefty reels. This is something different. The Duran clamp is made to fit well over 40 different reels!

In the past there have been several manufacturers who have come to market wih a clamp assembly for use with these new reels, but they've not been compatible across the different reels. What worked for a Lexa would not work on a a Tranx or Komodo. And, to further complicate things, what worked on a right hand retrieve reel would NOT work on a lefty. Ed Duran, the fellow beind these products, solved all those issues. As you can see from the image below, we set up a Lexa 400 lefty with the clamp, works just fine as does the right hand retrieve version.

This patent pending clamp is the most versatile clamping system on the market. It will fit OVER 40 different reels! All components of the DFP Clamp are precision CNC machined out of aircraft grade billet 6061 aluminum, making the single frame design strong and sturdy. All components contain 3D machined surfaces that allow for more contact with the reel foot and rod, providing stronger clamping force. The anodized finish provides resitance to wear and the harsh effects of saltwater, and they look great, too. Even with reels that offer a clamp, you may find yourself running this clamp assembly instead given the way it holds your reel onto the rod. In terms of compatibility, this new design clamp will fit shimano Tranx 400/500, Daiwa Lexa 400, Okuma Komodo 400 series, Torium 14-40, Penn Fathoms, Avet LX/JX/HX, Daiwa Saltist and Saltiga...and many more.

We have a couple pdf's for you to check:

The DFP Standard will fit the vast majority of rods on the market, however if you have an old-school FAT rod, say a Seeker 6480 or an Ulua, you'l need a larger sized clamp. Don't worry, machining has been completed, a larger size is coming soon. But, that's a limited application piece, if your rod is fat you'd need it, otherwise don't go that direction because it's compatibility is more limited.  We'll have these available in a month or so if you need. But, for now, let's rejoice in what we have! We've been looking long and hard for something like this with more compatibility between manufacturers, and we're glad to say we found it in Ed Duran's new DFP Clamp.
