Heavy YoYo and Surface Iron
Old Favorites Return - Made in
the USA (Huntington Beach Ca to be exact)!
And, now they go away again.
I brought these jigs in to help support the
owner of the firm, and owner of United
Composites rods during the initial stages of
UC's growth under Randy Penny. This
was a sideline for Randy, and the rod
production has of course taken priority.
So, our stock has dwindled and these jigs
will go away for a few years. So, if
you have wanted to add a few to your
assortment, now is a good time to grab a few
before they are all gone...
are two old time favorite West Coast "Iron" lures which are
coming back into production. The old Pep and Killer jigs were
favorites from about 30 years back. There have been a few on the
used tackle sites over the years, quickly gobbled up. Both lures
have strong adherents who well remember them from the older
days, guys who knew surface iron and swore by these designs.
They'd catch fish when other more well known designs were not
getting a bite. Both the Pep 5, 6 and Killer 65 lures offered are surface iron,
great for yellowtail, calico bass, striped bass and more. The
lures are both about six inches in length and weigh 2.5 ounces.
For those traveling south, they are also excellent lures for
Roosterfish and really any fish which reacts to surface lures.
They swim great, that's their big strength. You'll find more
uniformity of that characteristic, they all swim great - by
These are unique jigs, not copies. The old molds
were purchased many years ago, now the owner in expanding beyond
the garage stage to bring the jigs back into full production.
What was a part time hobby is now a full time venture.
All jigs come with Mustad treble hooks.
Killer 7 - 3.25 oz 93 gm, 7" @ $12.95
Killer 65 - 2.4 oz 68 gm, 6.5" @ $11.95
Killer CB1 - 1.9 oz 53 gm, 6" @ $10.95
Pep - 8 - 5.5 oz 157 gm, 8" @ $14.95
Pep - 6 - 2.2 oz 61 gm, 6" @ $11.95
Pep - 5 - 1.85 oz 52 gm, 5" @ $10.95
Pep - 3 - 1.65 oz 48 gm, 4.5" @ $9.95
Two new models have been added to our mix, the
HUGE Pep 8 and slim Killer CB1. These surface
irons are great additions. The thin bodied
Killer CB1 will really be appreciated by those
targeting stripers, roosters and yellowtail when
they are feeding on smaller baits. The BIG Pep 8
covers territory given up by Tady with their 77
(stopped production several years ago). The lure
is also a good inch longer than the Salas 7.
Great action on the big Pep, lots of kick to the
jig on retrieve and with the bigger profile,
it's going to bring strikes from the big ones.
Trying to get a 50 lb yellowtail at Cedros to
come up and grab your jig, this one is the
ticket no doubt about it.
Made in America, and very proud of
Killer & Pep Jigs
Heavies Return...IN BRASS!!
New Pep 3 and 9 - IN BRASS!!!
New Killer 5 Wahoo Jigs
They're here - and darn effective!!!
YoYo Deep IRON
been waiting on these new jigs for a while. The
Killer & Pep Jigs in BRASS! Heavy Brass jigs are excellent fish
catchers, and brass makes a huge difference in
the sink rate. Brass is more dense than what's
typically used for heavy iron. Tady used to
offer brass #9's, but due to the cost they moved
away from the material. Same for the old Raider
jigs which are now cheap imitations made from
steel. The Killer & Pep jigs are the real deal,
made with superior materials for greater fish
catching effectiveness. MADE IN USA
what they look like prior to painting. I'm kind
of thinking an unpainted polished version with
single hooks might be a dandy piece for wahoo...
That's something to hope for, too. But for
now you've got what will prove to be the
best yoyo iron on the market. Compact at a
bit over 5 inches in length and over 7
ounces of weight, compare that to the more
typical 4-5 ounces for this size iron and
you can imagine the benefit in productivity.
Killer jigs offer traditional shapes, while Pep
jigs offers most of their jigs with a uniquely shaped head for added kick
(and a couple models of more traditional shape like
the new #9).
All swim well, and they are
rigged a bit heavier than the light irons from
Killer and Pep, made to be fished with heavier
lines, 40-50 being most common.
Brass is the
best material for a heavy jig, no doubt. You can
keep the size down to a realistic bait size and
get a faster sink rate so that you're on the
fish almost immediately. At present the only
true brass jigs I'm aware of now are the Killers
and the ToroTamer Wahoo rippers, strictly a
matter of cost preventing more of this sort of
jig to be made available to fishermen. If you
fish yoyo iron, you should absolutely grab a few
of these. I'm following my own advice and will
be stocking up my own tackle box for our fall
comes to deep iron, brass is indeed best! Denser
material, faster sink rate, more durable -
they'll never crack or break when they hit the
3.5 inches, ~4.5 ounces/129 grams - what a chunk!
#9 in BRASS!
