The new Lexa TW is a great step forward for Daiwa’s line of saltwater low profile reels. They will be great for any kind of inshore fishing and can even hold their own for light offshore use. The T-Wing that they’ve been developing and testing with their smaller reels has finally been brought over to a bigger 400 size. The main advantage of this levelwind is that it allows you for the least amount of friction and restricted movement when in freespool and the most control for an even line lay when you are in gear getting the line back. You can expect farther casts with more consistency since you won’t have to worry about where your levelwind is positioned when you cast. They have a stainless pinion gear and brass main gear to give you great performance in saltwater and a perfectly smooth feel.

While the TW system is a great feature that is far ahead of the current levelwind styles, the main thing that sets this reel apart from the other Lexa WN and HD models is the size and weight. The overall frame size is about 17% smaller, they’re not as wide and not as long as the HD and WN variants in the 400 size making them much easier to hold and use all day long. The weight savings will also make for ultralight setups with the right rods which will make casting a lot more comfortable. The spool sizes are also different across both of the sizes. The 400 Lexa TW has a slightly narrower spool than the WN and HD models but maintains the taller height. This means you’ll lose a bit of line capacity on the larger size. The 300 size is a lot different from the HD and WN variants, it is the same height as the 400 spools but is much more narrow. The narrower spool size will hold more line than the standard 300 and provide extra casting distance since the spool won’t have to spin as fast to get the same amount of line out. This will be especially noticeable on lighter lures and bait.
