Mark Pack Works

markpack.jpg (62759 bytes)Mark Pack has established itself as the preferred long range tackle storage gear on the market.   Their Sport Ranger, Hippo Ranger and Long Ranger gear bags pushed some big firms into re-designing their products.  The Mark Pack tackle bags have replaced the traditional wood boxes, for a lot of good reasons.  First among the improvements are weight and durability.  The Mark Pack bags are not cheap, but they are the best on the market.  That's not simply my take on the matter.  Check out what other guys have on the boat.  You'll see just how well accepted Mark Pack products are.    I've owned a Sport Ranger for almost ten years now.  It's put up with lots of abuse, considerable weight, lots of ocean spray.  It's not failed me yet, just has a bit more character to show for all the abuse.

Besides the tackle bags, Mark Pack also produces a wide range of Reel Skins (form fitting reel bags), fanny pack storage products, rod cases and sleeves.  I'm stocking the Mark Pack gear in a couple of the most popular colors.   With the wide range of colors produced (though not always in stock) there are lots of options, but expect some delivery delays if you are particular in matching up color cosmetics to go along with your outfits...  I'm trying to keep an inventory on the navy, gray and green bags - but please check for availability.

Tackle Storage

110400e.jpg (64846 bytes)Mark Pack's gear is regarded as the finest tackle storage products on the market.  That's why I carry the line.  Simple.  When I take someone on my boat, I'm always hoping they don't bring everything they own.  Same story when I go on someone else's boat, I don't take all my gear for show and tell - I take what I'm going to be using that day.  And, I'd suggest it makes a lot more sense to bring this kit with you on a one-day party boat.  You can keep it on you for security purposes, or just so you can get what you need right when you need it.

The Baby Ranger Fanny Pack is a small compact workhorse.   It holds two 3600 size boxes (included), features an outside storage flap, zippered inside cover flap and another internal storage sleeve.  Oh yea, it comes with an insulated side water bottle storage compartment (with bottle included) which also could hold your favorite beverage in cool comfort.  It's a well thought out one day bag.

Model 024.jpg (108661 bytes)Model 027.jpg (157389 bytes)In keeping with my own tastes in traveling light, we have a couple new additions from Mark Pack you just might find as attractive as I do.  I'm not into totting all that I own when I ride a party boat or a friends boat.  I like to keep things simple and efficient.  So, I'm inclined towards the fanny pack above or these two new bags from Mark Pack.  Pictued left is the Surf Ranger bag, right is the Drop-shot bag.

This is a dandy bag if you're like me and like to travel light.  The Finesse/Drop-shot Bag is built strongly like all the other Mark Pack gear, and the size is right for so many fishing situations.  It doesn't take up much space, but you've got enough room to hold a wide variety of lures, hooks, sinkers and jigs for a day's fishing. For one or even two day trips this might just be all the bag you need if you do things right.  The new bag holds four Plano 3500 boxes, has storage room in front and back, and on top.  It's got a nice handle to tote it around by, indeed a model of efficient design.

Mark Pack Finesse Bag @ $19.95 (Comes with four Plano boxes - pictured top left)

Mark Pack's new Surf Ranger fills the bill quite well for one day trips or for fishing piers, the surf or jettys. Like the Finesse Bag, the Surf Ranger holds four 3500 size boxes, and provides ample storage in side pockets and the top of the bag.  The Surf Ranger provides a shoulder strap, with a user friendly design you'll find well thought out for a day's fishing.  You'll be able to hold the necessary tackle you intend to use, that day.  These aren't 5 day packs, mind you.  They are great alternatives for those of us who just don't like lugging too much stuff, or keeping track of too much gear.  Why take more than you'll use?  Get efficient!

Reel Cases

These are similar to the tackle boxes above, in that they do their job well.  The reel cases are padded and have a useful shoulder strap.  They're commonly used for both storage and transport. Like all Mark Pack products, they're strongly built, for reliable performance.

Mark Pack makes four sizes of reel storage boxes/packs.  Their small reel case will hold a several small to medium size reels.  The medium pack will handle reels as large as a 30 series Internationals. I use one for multi-day trips, and can tote a couple of larger trolling reels along with a bevy of 4/0 size reels.  The larger 30/50 and 50/80 reel boxes will handle your largest reels, plenty of 'em.  If you're going on a 10 day trip or more, the big boxes are perfect.  Same for long term, safe, storage of your valuable reel collection.  Which ever one you choose, you'll have a great storage system that's light, convenient to use, and protective.

Reel Skins

reelcvr.jpg (19715 bytes)

There are actually two ways to go for protecting your expensive reels while aboard a boat, bag it or wrap it. So, we've got both available.  The Mark Pack Reel Skins are form fitting.  Izor's product is more of a bag, great at keeping spray off your reels, but not as sharp to look at. The products from Mark Pack offer a bit more cushion to protect your reels from getting knocked about.  They still will keep a good deal of the moisture off as well as protect the reel's finish.  But, for keeping the spray off the reel, Izor's approach might have more utility.  (Mark Pack Reel Skin pictured left). A guy could get compulsive about it and use both... Honestly there are times both make sense.  For instance, if I'm making a pretty good run in my own often wet boat I'll opt for using the Izor product.  If I'm going on a larger boat out of San Diego for instance, where spray is less of an issue but cushioning the reel more of a concern,  I'll use the Mark Pack product.
