Williamson Lures
Tuna, Wahoo and
Marlin Lures
Some folks don't go in much for trolling, but as a dedicated
private boater I sure do enjoy the troll. It's a prospecting
thing. Probably a carry-over from my childhood, heading out
to the desert with my dad looking for arrowheads and other
artifacts. It's the search, the surprise of finding the
fish, rigging things the right way, having the right patterns in
the spread, and then HOOK-UP! Finding 'em is almost as much
fun as catching 'em, at times even more fun. The lures below
primarily fit into the trolling side of things. The frequency of use on
the big Long Range scene is limited due to the fishing style most often
used. But, for a private boater, the lures below are very interesting
and well worth dragging.
A few years ago you might have known of
a few of these lures under the
name of Pacific Pro, a Southern California distributor for
Williamson products. In 2005 Williamson sold their firm to the
owners of Rapala. This pretty much put PacPro out of the lure
business, but helped more firmly entrench the Rapala group into
the saltwater scene with many more offerings than their hard
bodied lures. For 2006 Williamson expanded their offerings into
some interesting areas, including some very large and realistic
soft bodied plastics. We held back a bit, to see how they would do
in the real world of catching fish rather than simply attracting
fishermen. Well, the reports are in that the lures can indeed
produce some good catches. They've even won a few Marlin
tournaments to the surprise of many. So, it was quite natural that
we'd bring 'em into our line-up of lures. In 2007 even more new
lures were introduced by the new Williamson; their fishing success
and fisherman popularity seems certain based upon design,
construction and value. The new Williamson still makes a very good
lure for a very reasonable amount of money, but they seem much
more creative in the lures they're making under the new ownership.
With the introduction of
Williamson Saltwater Live Series, a brand-new dimension to blue
water fishing is born. Life-like replicas of classic saltwater
bait are eliminating the time-consuming “live bait catch” and
allowing anglers more productive time on the water. By blending an
innovative mix of soft plastic, flash foils and top-of-the-line
rigging materials, the designers at Williamson have created baits
as close to nature as they come.
Designed to troll alone or as a deep-running offering under
standard spreads, the patent-pending wing design on both the
Little Tunny
and
Bunker swim
these baits with a perfect mimicry of their natural counterparts.
Whether your spread rigging requires the
classic ballyhoo ,
the
elusive ribbonfish
or a
live squid ,
each is available pro-rigged and ready to fish assuring a proper
presentation from both novice and pro alike.
Field testing has proven the immediate acceptance of these baits
by large species around the world. Tournament wins and more
world-record catches can’t be far behind.
When it’s all on the line, make sure Williamson is on yours.
Go Big or Go Home!
Little Tunny
The
Little Tunny when trolled at 7 - 9 knots swims under the normal offshore
trolling lures, adding another depth to your spread. Troll it at fast or
slow speeds and the life-like swimming action will catch all salt
predator species. The perfect choice for big Striper, Wahoo, Tuna,
Bonito, Dorado, Sailfish and Marlin. Features New Dynacut Point VMC®
hooks and patented hook locking system. Comes pre-rigged with 12 feet of
500 lb. line.
Live
Bunker
Whether
fished solo or as a frontline attractant under normal offshore trolling
spreads, the Live Bunker soft plastic lures provide a life-like swimming
action that hooks all dominant salt predators. Big Striper, Wahoo, Tuna,
Bonito, Dorado, Sailfish and Marlin all are potential game with these
incredible lures. One look at the swimming action and both angler and
fish are sold. Features the new Dynacut Point VMC® hooks and patented
hook locking system. Each one is pre-rigged with 6 feet of 200 lb. line.
New
Live Mackerel and Mullet!
Two
new sizes, three new flavors of a tuna or yellowtail's most
frequent forage: Mackerel! Williamson has introduced a nice 12
inch Spanish Mackerel and two seven inch macks in a green or blue
pattern. The lures are pre-rigged, swim well and can be fished
effectively on the troll, dropped back, or even in a cast and
retrieve with the smaller lures.
Live
Ballyhoo
The
versatile Williamson Ballyhoo lure has a unique nose construction and
two nose rigging options. Available Pro-rigged, J-rigged or bodies only.
Pro-rigged baits come pre-rigged with a circle hook and 6 feet of 100
lb. line. J-rigged baits come pre-rigged with a VMC® saltwater hook and
6 feet of 100 lb. line. This fast-trolling soft plastic lure is so
realistic in color and action that you will never want to use live bait
again. Troll from 2 to 8 knots for life-like swimming action that
catches all salt predator species.
Ballyhoo
Combo
Here's another unique lure that will attract the attention of
fishermen as well as fish. The Ballyhoo Combo utilizes an
artificial ballyhoo (like the lures above) rigged behind a concave
head skirted lure. They're single hook rigged at the belly and
provide natural action as well as fish attracting commotion from
the chugger head. It's a deadly combination that doesn't depend
upon having live bait available for effectiveness. Priced per lure
at a very strong value.
Live
Ribbonfish
The
Ribbonfish has a snake-like swimming action at 2 to 6 knots and will
catch all salt predator species. Equipped with 7x7 stainless steel cable
and 4x strong PermaSteel VMC® hooks. Irresistible to King Mackerel,
Amberjack, Barracuda and Yellowtail.
Bulb Squid Daisy Chains
For catching tuna, especially from a
private boat, you've really got to do some prospecting to find the
fish and some convincing of those fish, to make 'em think it's
worth their energy to pursue your offering. You've got to find the
fish, get noticed, and you've got to pull the fish to the boat.
Daisy chains and spreader bars are effective tools in this regard
for private boaters. So, Williamson makes both available, at a
darn good price.
Tuna Plugs
Here's
a nice variant on a familiar theme. We've sold these lures for
several years and they've been good producers. Williamson's Tuna
Plug is similar to a cedar plug in action, you rig them the same
way using a narrow eye Mustad tuna hook (we have rigging kits
available for about $3). We stock three versions, purple, blue
abalone and silver. They're highly reflective of light, so they
get noticed while being trolled. They can also be trolled at a
fairly quick pace should that be desired. But, they also do quite
well trolled slowly at 4-5 knots given their pusher-style head and
nice bubble trail.
Tuna Pack
Another nifty package from
Williamson. You get four tuna feathers, two
chrome heads, for a total of six lures and one
nice case. You have a range of patterns,
suitable for most any conditions or locations.
All for a mere $49.95.
