BRAID - SEA FOX AND
THUMPER SQUIDS
New
from Dennis Braid
Braid's
new Sea Fox and Thumper Squid Jigs have been carefully designed to
be fished in a wide variety of water depths and for a wide variety
of fish, for both inshore and offshore situations. We stock the
jigs in 7 different weights to accommodate all desired water
depths and fishing applications. The Sea Fox jigs can be
fished
3 different ways, depending upon where the angler connects his
line to the jig. They can be either trolled, cast or jigged for
bottom fishing applications, giving these jigs tremendous
versatility. The Thumper Squid and Sea Fox jigs are perfect for
all bottom-fishing applications — either inshore of offshore,
depending on water depth. The lighter jigs in both models (1-1/2
oz, 2-1/4 oz and 3 oz sizes) can be fished where water depths
range from 4 feet to approximately 30 feet in depth, deeper with
the use of thin diameter Spectra lines. These smaller
sizes are perfect for all Inshore applications.
The
heavier jigs in both models (4-1/4 oz, 5-1/4 oz, 7 oz and 10-1/2
oz) can be fished for all deep-water applications up to 200 feet,
even deeper under the right conditions and with Spectra lines.
These beautifully finished jigs come in 5 colors, one for almost
every need the angler might have; our brilliant colors are: #
28-Goatfish, # 31-Purple/Pink, # 38-Midnight, #40-Dorado and #
41-Orange Mackerel. The lures are pre-rigged with a double assist
hook of high quality. The lures are also luminescent, they glow!
Two
styles of lures, similar but different fishing applications. The
Sea Fox lures can be effective on the troll, using the front ring.
While many more guys will end up rigging them on their top ring
for vertical jigging. The Octopus shaped Thumper Squid has a
narrower profile, so there would be less resistance on the drop.
As a result, these may be used in situations where there is more
current or a faster drop is beneficial. Time will tell which style
becomes more favored by anglers, but having two different shapes
can be nothing but beneficial I believe. It adds something
different for the fish to see, offers different action on the
drop. I do think trolled SeaFox's will take their share of wahoo,
and the Thumpers will be used in conditions where a slimmer
profile can add to the lure's effectiveness.
You might have seen a highly promoted version of this jig
offered by a well known Japanese based company...I think their
initials are...shimano (not our favorite firm) and they've
attached a name that's more reminiscent of a disease than a
lure (lupus or lacunas or something like that...). They've
been dying a well deserved death in the reel market, and are
trying to sell lures, bags, even Kroc klog knock-offs... Only
problem is they're still trying to play the same pricing
games, inflated retails, low dealer costs and high profit
margins, and price fixing with merchandise they don't
manufacture themselves. Well, competition is the American way,
and even a transplanted Aussie knows that consumers aren't
dumb when it comes to recognizing a value verses an overpriced
rip-off. Which goes to explain Braid's foray into this style
of lure. What we have here is something akin to the butterfly
hoopla, a productive style of lure that the "s" folks sold at
an inflated price, but which was available through our sources
at about 50% of the price (with more variations of style and
size). Well, the Sea Fox and Thumper Squids offer consumers
another option, a much better priced option, again with more
variations of size and style to suit more applications.

BRAID
MARAUDER METAL
Take
your jig fishing to a new level with Braid's new Marauder Metal.
The
Marauder Metal features the look, action and color
schemes which generate vicious strikes from the most powerful
inshore and offshore predators. That's what Dennis says, and he's
fished 'em. What we can say is that the colors are terrific,
they've "matched the hatch" so to speak with baits that accurately
reflect the usual forage for fish: sardine (and bunker), young
dorado, anchovy and mackerel. I also really like the range in
sizes, from .5 ounces up to 4 ounces. They run from about two
inches in length to five inches. So, you can match up your lure
offering with what the fish are feeding upon. They'll cast well,
too. The hooks used are proper for this lure's application,
stainless steel single hooks! The nose ring and hook ring are also
top-drawer welded rings, not split rings. So, you've got some
security once you do hook onto a fish. Use 'em as a cast and
retrieve, fish them vertically, add a bend to the lure for even
more action, and don't forget to fish 'em on "the slide" to take
advantage of a trolling strike. They'll work for you, that's a
promise.

The
Braid poppers are sure winners for guys trying to entice tuna and other
gamefish for an exciting surface bite. They are a new generation of
popper, with nicer finishes and better fish attracting action that
what's been available previously. They are sized right for bigger fish,
and they have the right colors to imitate natural forage for pelagic
gamefish. The front of the bait is flat instead of concave, allowing the
bait to be ripped across the surface easier triggering ferocious surface
strikes.
The
colors on these baits are the most realistic we've seen with a highly
reflective holographic finish that draw a predatory fish's attention
like a magnet. They are rigged with heavy duty 4X strong hooks and 500#
through wire construction connecting hooks. They come in two sizes, a
BIG 7" model and a smaller 5" so you can match the offering to what the
fish are feeding on - or allow you to target gamefish of differing sizes
and be a bit more selective in your catch.
5" weight: 1.5 ounces
7" weight 3.5 ounces

Braid Wahoo Bombs!
There are a
lot of very effective wahoo bombs on the market, Catchy,
Burns, Strike Master, and of course Braid. All can
be quite effective and a lot of fun to fish. What
makes the Braid 540 Bomb unique is it's shape and
design. The lure is designed to improve hook-ups.
This lure has a counter bored head which puts the
hook closer to the head of the lure - where a
Wahoo typically nails it's prey. We sell the lures
rigged, with low visibility multi-strand wire, a
nice spinner-blade tailer. They are well rigged,
and they have an attention getting skirt design
with mylar, tinsel and a thicker holographic
overskirt. Braid's 540 Bomb is also a bit heavier
than the typical wahoo bomb, coming in at six
ounces. So, they'll drop fast, cast far, and be
quite effective fishing the slide after a trolling
rig hook-up. The lures are proven, and well worth
having in the tackle box.

We're
really excited about this new lure from Dennis Braid. It's
probably the most innovative subsurface trolling lure of it's kind on
the market today. This stainless steel trolling lure offers great
depth control, a fish attracting flash and vibrating action like no
other trolling lure on the market - PERIOD. The lures are quite
thin, with a heavier wider bottom for stability when trolled. They
have several different mounting/attachment positions which will offer
varied depths when trolled. They'll run from 2 to 25' in depth
depending upon the position you attach the lure. Excellent
flexibility and depth control. These are awfully trick, they'll
attain very good depth, and they run well from 8-11knots!
We've
added two new Blade Runners. The new 5" and 3" variants
will open up a whole lot of fishing opportunities! I can't tell you
how much we've wanted to see the other smaller size Blades for our local
fishing. The new lures are constructed and finished just like the
original, with the exception of the little lure which has treble hooks
attached by way of a split ring. When the smaller yellowfin show
or albacore, private boaters should clean up trolling the smaller sizes.
I'd stick on an open eye single siwash hook for sure on the rear, maybe
even a 4/0 or 5/0 size double for the belly hook. Lots of room for
experimenting. The two larger sizes are made to run up to 25' deep
from 8-11 knots. The smallest size can be used cast and retrieve
or on the troll reaching depths of up to 10' at 5-8 knots.
For rigging, attach the lure with a stainless
snap, or use a thimble and crimp. You can also wire rig them using
a loop with a series of barrel wraps and a haywire twist. Lots of
applications for this lure, lots of fish will be darn interested in
eating them - from tuna to wahoo, and a lot of other species, too!

Braid BlackJack!
Recently
folks have been swarming on our Braid Speedster's like they
were the only lure catching tuna. No doubt they have
been VERY effective. You may wish to check those
elsewhere on this page. The BlackJack's are a tad
smaller, a tasty morsel for an albacore. We've added new
colors to our mix, as well for these dandy lures. The new Black Jack is just a bit smaller
than the Speedy. It runs 4 inches in length, a better
size for most albies. It can be trolled at up to 18
knots! The lure has some weight in it's nose allowing the
faster speed and more stable trolling effectiveness.
It's an enticing offering for tuna, dorado, king mackerel
and wahoo. The lures are especially effective when the
fish are feeding on smaller bait, like now.

BRAID
SPEEDSTER
Here's
another neat lure from Braid Products, the Speedster. This
trolling lure will take a wide range of gamefish, from tuna, dorado and
wahoo to yellowtail.
They're a favorite for early season yellowfin tuna and albacore.
Anything hungry is likely to jump on 'em!
The Speedster series is a slim profile, fast
trolling lure, good for up to 15 knots. These six 1/2 inch long
lures are thru-wired for your security with toothy critters. They
feature large single hooks attached on an internal ball bearing swivel.
Their holographic finish draws attention, as does their built in rattle.
They'll fish every bit as good as they'll troll. You can rig them on
mono or single strand wire, and they are proven fish catchers!

BRAID
MARAUDER
Braid
Marauder Lure The Marauder a very popular long range wahoo trolling lure. It's
rugged construction, ball bearing swivels and chomp-proof urethane construction, single
hooks w/swivels, ensures you'll get more than your money's worth from this lure. This product is also capable of taking a wide
range of gamefish, from tuna to makos. But, beyond a doubt, the thing that's made this a
tackle box must-have, has been the long range success this lure's achieved
targeting wahoo. Rig the lure on 49 strand cable (some use single
strand wire) or simply grab one of the rigging harnesses at the bottom
of the page when going after toothy critters like 'hoo or makos. The
Marauder is "standard issue" for long rang fishing. Click on
the picture to see a color code.
Braid has made a change in their colors, making
them much more reflective with a prism holographic-style finish. We have
not updated all of our images to reflect this, but we will... You can
get a good idea of the new colors in the Speedster colors above.
