The New Pinhead* Series Rods
NEW 2012 INTRODUCTION!
The new Pinhead
series of rods from Seeker are quite interesting, excellent fishing high
value packed rods. They feature our long time standard actions and models,
from the days of Truline and Sabre, made from fiberglass. If you liked rods
like the Ulua, SD8 or 36, you'll foam over these guys. All the rods are
"deckhand" style, corktape wraps, no reel seat, longer length casting
oriented rods. The deckhand rods have been a long term West Coast favorite
for folks tossing bait and iron long distances. Typically a guy will place
the reel (using the reel clamp, or Cork Puppy) at a distance corresponding
the the length of one's forearm. Simply measure from the rod butt, lining up
your elbow there and secure the reel at the point of your hand or wrist. Of
course there's room for variance, but that's the typical convention on this
type of rod. This style of long rod provides some serious casting distance,
that's their strength. Actions are a bit parabolic, you can really load up
the pressure and cast well.
One
point, that does not need being said, but should be remembered, SEEKER RODS ARE
MADE HERE IN CALIFORNIA, USA. THEY ARE NOT AN IMPORT, THEY ARE PRODUCED BY FOLKS
THAT FLAT OUT KNOW THEIR CRAFT - AND HAVE BEEN DOING IT FOR DECADES. The rods
are "old school" the performance is timeless and as it should be for rods of
this type and style. The unique thing with the Pinhead Series is that they are
priced aggressively, priced so that anyone can get into better grade gear
without sacrificing quality or integrity of construction.
*Pinhead is "professional" party boat terminology used to distinguish a newby
deckhand. Don't ever take it personal if a fisherman points you out as a pinhead
- since we all were pinheads once upon a time. Now, in political circles it
carries out another definition usually associated with an elected official from
the late great state of California...

Cork Puppy
A
lot of West Coast fishermen use deckhand style
rods, rods with a corktape grip wrap instead of
making use of a more typical reel seat with a
hypolon or cork handle. The corktape deckhand
rods are preferred by long-cast guys - jig
fishermen, and those desiring a longer rod and
longer casts. Additionally, the deckhand rods
allow the fisherman to mount the reel using a
rod clamp in a more custom, more comfortable and
balanced position, again aiding in longer casts.
One drawback of this type of handle/grip is that
the reel clamp tends to dig into the cork over
time. Applying that clamp's pressure over a
larger area reduces the grind on the cork and
allows for a more secure mount. The Cork Puppy
solves the mounting problem quite well. They fit
the majority of rods, and reels made. If your
intent is to mount a reel (that has a rod clamp)
to a deckhand rod, this product just might be a
necessity. There are three sizes, measured by
the rod's diameter in the area you intend to
mount the reel. It's made of machined 6061-T6
aluminum with type II anodizing.

We'll make sure you're right on target.
Our Chark-Sleeves are
a bit different than the one's above. They are
available in three sizes. The base of the
sleeve folds up onto the butt section of the
rod and then can be tied off. So, one size can
fit shorter rods with no problem. They are
made of 89% polyester and 11% lycra (like OJ's
gloves if you remember...). The material is
versatile, durable and quick drying. It's
super stretchy, and the micro polyester fabric
wicks away moisture - like those $60 golf
shirts. Nice product, nice price! These will
stretch up to one foot longer in length. So, a
5' will indeed fit a 6' rod, the 7 will
stretch to a tight 8.
