SuperSeeker

S-Glass, Carbon Fiber & EH04 Resin
Combine to Create Seeker's Very Best Rods

Seekers has been busy designing a new series of rods, the Super Seekers. They began introducing the rods this year (2007), with new models being manufactured almost each week. They have produced the majority of the blanks (as of this writing). The new rods will be one step beyond the Black Steel series, with heavier construction, guides and material changes. These are truly The State of Art blanks and rods combining the classic look with the latest technology in materials. The blank color is brown with a tangerine finish. All blanks have a double-coat of epoxy finish heavy duty double foot guides... The aim of Seeker is simply to produce the best rods ever manufactured.

State of Art Materials -
Please note after the sale of Seeker in 2014 the new owner elected to change the guides and cosmetics of the SS rods. Images of the new production rods are  posted further down this page.  Both guides and wrap cosmetics changed, it is our understanding that the blanks themselves have not changed, but we'll need to confirm that fact as we see new rods arrive - however that's been a slower process through the summer of 2014 we've not seen much in the way of new production from Seeker. We have a very limited inventory of the older production rods available - call for selection.

The Super Seekers make use of . 120 carbon fiber and “S” Glass with their new EH04 Epoxy Resin System. Seeker refers to this new material as Carbon-fiber Superglass, and it's appropriate. By using carbon fiber transitioning into an “S” glass tip they have built the most powerful and fastest recoil blanks Seeker has ever built. The new rods also feature American Tackle Company's new Titan solid titanium frame ring guides which are 100% corrosion resistant. They are also 65% lighter than standard guides and are the most flexible live bait and standup boat guides on the market. The roller rods use AFTCO guides. The grip material is not hypolon, it's a new compound that's much more functional and longer lived. You'll notice that your hands don't become as slippery on the rod, there's no twisting, and it's also a more comfortable material.

These rods were built to match today's powerful two speed reels such as Avet and Accurate offer. The grip material is totally new, as is the blank material which incorporates the finest fiberglass as well as the very best carbon fiber made and meshed with the new resin formula from Seeker. Even the reel seats are top drawer, not composite but rather aluminum. The rods are uncompromising in terms of quality and fishability. These are not a graphite rod, or a graphite composite. They are a totally new design, incorporating many of the unique benefits of the other materials but with some added enhancements to produce a stronger rod that's also relatively light in weight (though that's not the main design focus of these rods). They are made for strength, lifting power, and durability. Simply put, they are designed and constructed to be the very best rods on the market, without compromise.

Why use S glass and 120 Carbon Fiber? Because when blanks break they usually break on the bottom side of the blank. The top side of the blank can stretch more than the bottom side can compress. By using the “S” glass tip and the EH04 resin system it gives these blanks three times the compression strength of “E” glass and produces faster recoil.

Three years in testing has produced the most powerful and fastest recoil blanks and rods Seeker has ever built.

We also sell the unfinished Super Seeker rod blanks. You can check them out on our Seeker Blank page.

NEW: Seeker Rod Company Has Done it AGAIN! Long range fishermen asked for it, and they built it. The newest Seeker rod for taking on big tuna is the company's seven foot 2x4. This rod incorporates the best of both worlds. The 2x4 is, in many ways a marriage of two of Seeker's most popular blanks. The tip of the 2x4 is based off an XXH tip section. That tip allows some flex at heavier lines, providing better bait presentation through longer casts, while also serving as a bit of a shock absorber for anglers who like to fish short topshots. The BIG aft section of the rod is based off a XXXXH butt section that has been drawn out to make a seven foot rod. This makes the 2x4 about a foot longer than your traditional stand up rod in it's line class. This new rod is made from Seeker's famous S glass, BH04 Resin system, unique grip material, famous forgiveness and strength. The right blank, carbon fiber and S Glass, the right components and guide set - titanium and matched with the right action and design. The longer more comfortable foregrip helps while fighting the fish, utilizing the flex in the longer tip, and the motion of the boat while resting the rod on the rail.

The 2x4 has been tested extensively by Seeker's staff, and already has 300# plus fish to it's credit. It's a must have in the serious angler's arsenal. It's perfect for making long casts with a mackerel on those days where bait presentation is everything, be it sliding on spots of porpoise or anchoring up on one of the banks. While it's made for our West Coast style of long range fishing, this rod will have serious application for our East Coast and Gulf Clients going after larger fish. Put the 2x4 to work for you. The rod is triple wrapped, has an aluminum gimbal as one would expect for this class of fishing rod. It's stout, but surprisingly comfortable in the hands. Fish 80-100# easily on this rod, and it can bounce up or down a class given the lightness of the tip and capability of the butt.

PLEASE NOTE, SEEKER JUST COMPLETED PRODUCTION OF THEIR 1X3 AND 3X5 ROD BLANKS. THEY'RE IN STOCK IN BOTH STANDARD AND CharkBait CUSTOM FORM NOW. Pictured below: CharkBait Custom Series Seeker 1x3 and 6470 click image to navigate to CB Custom rods. Note the different wrap colors and guide-set for the CharkBait Series.

Seeker WahooDad Rail Rods
PRO Series

The Rail Rod concept was invented by Seeker, and no one more than David Choate, WahooDad (as he's known on the boards) was more influential in it's development, and instrumental in proving it's application worth. This concept revolutionized long range fishing, it's use and progress than the well known WahooDad. It was only fitting that the folks at Seeker listened again and took his feedback to heart in designing a series of rods named in his honor. These rods have a couple of new wrinkles to them, they are a bit longer at 7'3" length and they do not come with a gimbal, they're rail rods damn-it! They have an extended foregrip like our custom version 2x4's and make use of a rail pad so they won't get beaten up when used as intended. The rods feature ALPS reel seats, too. They're also pretty darn good to look at, made in a rich blue color, and with blanks from the Super Seeker Series - their best. Of course the guides are made from Titanium...excellence all the way.

There are four rods in the series, 1x3, 2x4, a new 3X and 4X as well - these last two are based upon the 6463 series rods. These are a bit more forgiving than the 3x5 cow rod and more parabolic in bend than the 2x4. I encourage folks to drop by our shops and give these a pull, they are all super. For those fishing almost exclusively braid, I do think the X version rods will hold a lot of interest given their bend. But, make no mistake, these are all best in class products - with no doubt, with no compromises whatsoever.

If you'd like another view of these rods, click the Store Tour link and move towards the front of the shop and you can see a few on the rack. This is a limited production, the rods will not be in the lineup for Seeker beyond the initial run.

This was a limited production offering from Seeker, will be replaced by the new Offshore Pro Series (not pictured yet, but posted in the SS series rod line up below).

In 2014 Seeker's owners (who had nothing to do in the fishing business - they were simply the $ backers of firm) decided to sell the company. The firm was sold to a client of ours, a Southern Californian with strong fishing ties. The new owner looked over the entire operation, equipment, location, product lines and came to the decision that they would move the factory, upgrade their capability with new technology and make some changes to their product line. The upgrades in production will be great to see, and open new doors for Seeker's cutting edge capability and future growth. These are positive changes which reflect "new blood" in the decision making process. However, there will be some changes which may present some obstacles for some of us. With their move, which is anticipated to come by June 2014, we'll have a more difficult time making runs to the factory, we'll depend upon drop offs and shipments. Still, their new location won't be that far away, we've just been spoiled by being so darn close to both Seeker and Calstar.

In terms of product changes, well here we do see some challenges and also need to get word out to clients of future changes in the product line which may impact their existing arsenal of rods. Here are some of the planned changes which will be coming:

1. Super Seeker Series - in the past the guide wraps were pretty sophisticated, up to 17 different thread colors changes per guide. This will be simplified on new production. Guide Selection - Seeker moved away from their use of the Titanium Guides - they're darn expensive and in order to hold costs down Seeker will go to Fuji guides for the future. Pictured below are the new cosmetics. The new guides are Fuji's, TI coated SS with rolled inserts.

2. Hercules - The guides will be changed from Titanium to SS Fuji guides.  There is also discussion to change the blank color... I don't necessarily like this idea, feel these are distinctive as they were designed, and there are some folks who look to round out their rod selection/arsenal with the same cosmetics as what they currently own.  Our input wasn't part of the decision process...

CharkStraps & CharkWraps

Two new items from us, not necessarily the most creative or revolutionary products we've ever come up with, but nonetheless they are useful and they are a bit different than what's available from others.

Our RodWraps are an upgrade from the StickJackets we've carried for several years. We've made ours a bit larger in diameter so that they will accommodate larger saltwater guides, even larger spinning guides. The StickJackets were really made for freshwater use, sized accordingly but we used their spinning models for our application. Now we've got 'em made our way. We've reinforced the top with a leatherette end piece and metal grommet which can be used to hang rods, and we've increased the diameter to allow your rods, even those using larger AFTCO wind-on roller guides or larger size spinning guides to fit. The Wraps are about 5 feet in length, will extend down the rod into the handle material of most rods. They are not made to cover the entire rod, only that portion it's designed to protect - the blank, the finish, the guides.

These wraps are all that I've been using now for the past few years. I like the fact that I can use them for storage protection, travel protection as well as leave 'em on my rods on the boat. They are breathable and they don't absorb moisture. So, they help me protect my rods when they're bundled up once the fishing is over. On most long range trips out of San Diego, you move your rods onto the boat and off the boat all bundled up. They may stay that way overnight on the boat as well. For a cloth sock, that's no good. So, you can write off any protection of the rod under these conditions, and rods do get grouped, compressed, bounced around while stored on the upper deck and in handling at the end of a trip. So, when it's time to "take down your gear" on a long range trip for bundling and storage on the top deck during travel and boat cleaning, I'll put my rods in the Jacket individually and in a pinch two in the same sleeve. That's helped me protect my rods, their guides, and keep things organized and together at the end of the trip. With these things you do get that protection when you need it most. I even leave them on my rods when I get home and put my fishing rods away for storage. I'll spray off the rod jackets while still on the rod, loosening any accumulated saltwater in the process. Then I'll take off the wraps, clean the rods more thoroughly and allow them to dry. Use of a cleaner like Penn's Rod and Reel cleaner for that, and you've got things in great shape for your next trip and your gear will stay in new condition. The Wraps are five feet in length.

The other product we have for rod organization are our CharkStraps. These are great for bundling your rods together for transport or storage. You can secure up to a half dozen rods with these things. Nice thing about ours verses some others, they are made from a softer foam/rubber material so they'll never scratch up your rods. Unlike some similar products I've seen, we made it a point to include three different sizes (which makes sense since you'll use all three at different positions on your bundled rods from the tip to near the reel seat). So, you get three straps, all with Velcro through their length to handle most any size bundle of rods you'll be totting, from 2 to 6 or more rods.

Cork Puppy

A lot of West Coast fishermen use deckhand style rods, rods with a corktape grip wrap instead of making use of a more typical reel seat with a hypolon or cork handle. The corktape deckhand rods are preferred by long-cast guys - jig fishermen, and those desiring a longer rod and longer casts. Additionally, the deckhand rods allow the fisherman to mount the reel using a rod clamp in a more custom, more comfortable and balanced position, again aiding in longer casts. One drawback of this type of handle/grip is that the reel clamp tends to dig into the cork over time. Applying that clamp's pressure over a larger area reduces the grind on the cork and allows for a more secure mount. The Cork Puppy solves the mounting problem quite well. They fit the majority of rods, and reels made. If your intent is to mount a reel (that has a rod clamp) to a deckhand rod, this product just might be a necessity. There are three sizes, measured by the rod's diameter in the area you intend to mount the reel. It's made of machined 6061-T6 aluminum with type II anodizing.

Trigger Clamp from SEI
For Deckhand Rods

Here's an update of an old favorite, combined with another idea, and together they may be just what you've been looking for. Mounting a reel on a deckhand rod, being able to position the reel anywhere you'd like is a great thing for distance casting. The downside is that a fairly narrow reel clamp may allow for some twisting on the rod or some damaging pressure on the cork-tape. The Cork Puppy solved that problem, similarly to Accurate's after market long brace, providing a more secure mounting on your favorite deckhand rod. The new Trigger Clamp being introduced this week takes that to another level with the addition of a trigger which provides even more control during a cast or when you're waiting on a bite. Now, I'll say the product is not perfect, and it may require some fiddling on your part to make it a perfect match to your rod. For some reels, such as the smaller size Accurate reels, it just won't work since there's not enough clearance from the gear case. For some others you may need shorter or longer bolts, that's something to be expected given differences in rod diameter. You may need to use a washer (stainless steel of course) to deal with bolt length or a narrow nut for the reel's bolts. But, for most reels it's a pretty easy fit. That's a downside of making a "universal" product that will work with the majority of reels straight out of the box using their own hardware. With a bit of fiddling this product will work with the vast majority of reels on the market, and for many it will work straight out of the box. Those are my caveats to buyers, and on the positive side we finally have a trigger grip for deckhand rods, and a more secure method of mounting reels on deckhand rods. The positives far outweigh any fiddling which MAY be required to ensure a perfect fit.

There are no accessories packaged with the Trigger Clamp, what you see is what you get. Unlike the old Cork Puppy, there's only one size to the new Trigger. It is a 29mm size, so again it's going to fit the vast majority of deckhand rods with the exception of the really fat ones like an Ulua. It's priced right, at $18, a bit under it's only (and typically out of stock)  alternative, and it's got a TRIGGER! So, a bit of fiddling has a payoff given what it offers folks looking for both security and comfort.
