Seeker Fishing Rods

CharkBait's Seeker Sticks: CharkBait! is very pleased to be able to offer the full selection of great rods from Seeker, one of the West Coast's premier producers of high quality fishing rods, gaffs and rod blanks.   Seeker saltwater rods have earned top recommendations from the long range fleet.   Knowledgeable  experts, like Frank LoPreste (owner of the Royal Polaris and other top rated San Diego based  sportfishers) swear by Seeker rods, not at them.  They have the right actions, attention to detail, and are priced aggressively offering the discriminating angler a true value.  Please click on the image of the series of rods you're interested in, and you'll be taken to the dedicated page for more information and pricing.

In 2014 Seeker's owners (who had nothing to do in the fishing business - they were simply the $ backers of firm) decided to sell the company. The firm was sold to a client of ours, a Southern Californian with strong fishing ties. The new owner looked over the entire operation, equipment, location, product lines and came to the decision that they would move the factory, upgrade their capability with new technology and make some changes to their product line.

In terms of product changes, well here we do see some challenges and also need to get word out to clients of future changes in the product line which may impact their existing arsenal of rods. Here are some of the planned changes which will be coming:

1. Super Seeker Series - in the past the guide wraps were pretty sophisticated, up to 17 different thread color changes per guide. This will be simplified on new production. Guide Selection - Seeker moved away from their use of the Titanium Guides - they're darn expensive - and in order to hold costs down Seeker will go to Fuji guides with a titanium coating for the future. No negative here, the Titanium guides were excellent as are the Fuji guides which will be used.

2. Hercules - The guides will be changed from Titanium to SS Fuji guides.  There is also discussion to change the blank color... I don't necessarily like this idea, feel these are distinctive as they were designed, and there are some folks who look to round out their rod selection/arsenal with the same cosmetics as what they currently own. For those trying to round out their rod selection with the same cosmetics, better move sooner than later. Our input wasn't part of the decision process...

3. I'm expecting the Bushido series to go away or be changed considerably in the future. So, if you want one, now is the time to grab one while we have some stock available.

4. Warranty, all claims must be made directly with the factory rather than through dealers.

We have seen a considerable delay in receiving rods from Seeker since the sale took place in March 2014. I was told directly by the new owner that the lease on their Long Beach factory was cancelled, the property owner was selling the building, which "forced" the move to Oxnard. That was not truthful. (The new owner can do whatever he wishes with regards to their location, however an untruthful statement is never a positive in building trust). The new owner also indicated that they were going to purchase new production equipment and dispose of older machinery. They did indeed sell off some machinery, but I don't know about the replacement of rod building equipment or their new factory's production capability. At this point I'm not positive that Seeker is in a position to actually produce rods, or if instead they will simply be sourcing blanks from a third party and have them wrapped at their Oxnard plant. The flow of products in the 4th quarter and in 2015 will tell the tale, certainly product flow through the summer of 2014 was very limited given the move of the factory, and selling some production equipment. I'm hopeful Seeker will remain one of the top rod building firms in this industry. As I know more and confirm rod manufacture capability we'll post the information for our clients.

Seeker's NEWEST! WahooDad's Rail Rods

Seeker WahooDad Rail Rods
New PRO Series - LIMITED PRODUCTION

- We have a few of these remaining in inventory, once gone...get yours while you can.

The Rail Rod concept was invented by Seeker, and no one more than David Choate, WahooDad (as he's known on the boards) was more influential in it's development, and instrumental in proving it's application worth. This concept revolutionized long range fishing, it's use and progress than the well known WahooDad. It was only fitting that the folks at Seeker listened again and took his feedback to heart in designing a series of rods named in his honor. These rods have a couple of new wrinkles to them, they are a bit longer at 7'3" length and they do not come with a gimbal, they're rail rods damn-it! They have an extended foregrip like our custom version 2x4's and make use of a rail pad so they won't get beaten up when used as intended. The rods feature ALPS reel seats, too. They're also pretty darn good to look at, made in a rich blue color, and with blanks from the Super Seeker Series - their best. Of course the guides are made from Titanium...excellence all the way.

There are four rods in the series, 1x3, 2x4, a new 3X and 4X as well - these last two are based upon the 6463 series rods. These are a bit more forgiving than the 3x5 cow rod and more parabolic in bend than the 2x4. I encourage folks to drop by our shops and give these a pull, they are all super. For those fishing almost exclusively braid, I do think the X version rods will hold a lot of interest given their bend. But, make no mistake, these are all best in class products - with no doubt, with no compromises whatsoever.

If you'd like another view of these rods, click the Store Tour link and move towards the front of the shop and you can see a few on the rack.

SEEKER RODS LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY POLICY

Updated 3/31/2014

The Seeker Rod Company guarantees its rods and blanks to be free of manufacturing and workmanship defects.  If a rod or blank is found to have a manufacturing or workmanship defect, that rod or blank will be replaced free of charge.

Rods owners will need to have proof of purchase, and all repairs or replacements must be made directly by Seeker. Shipping is at the expense of the rod owner. In the past we were able to handle this sort of thing at our shops, now Seeker staff must be the ones doing the inspecting and processing warranty claims. For clients purchasing rods from us who may have lost their receipt, we may be able to assist with that issue provided we do not change our software. It's no doubt best to save the proof of purchase (invoice) yourself in the event we do change software here at CharkBait over time. That's something we tend to do every three years or so...

After inspection, should Seeker find the rod or blank failed for reasons other than material or workmanship, there will be a replacement and shipping charge.

Cork Puppy

A lot of West Coast fishermen use deckhand style rods, rods with a corktape grip wrap instead of making use of a more typical reel seat with a hypolon or cork handle. The corktape deckhand rods are preferred by long-cast guys - jig fishermen, and those desiring a longer rod and longer casts. Additionally, the deckhand rods allow the fisherman to mount the reel using a rod clamp in a more custom, more comfortable and balanced position, again aiding in longer casts. One drawback of this type of handle/grip is that the reel clamp tends to dig into the cork over time. Applying that clamp's pressure over a larger area reduces the grind on the cork and allows for a more secure mount. The Cork Puppy solves the mounting problem quite well. They fit the majority of rods, and reels made. If your intent is to mount a reel (that has a rod clamp) to a deckhand rod, this product just might be a necessity. There are three sizes, measured by the rod's diameter in the area you intend to mount the reel. It's made of machined 6061-T6 aluminum with type II anodizing.
