State of the Art Fishing Rods and Blanks
for the Ultimate Quality, Performance and
Durability
Calstar rods have taken more
big tuna over 200 pounds than all other manufacturer's products
combined...by a 3 to 1 margin (San Diego Sportfishing Council from
1998-2000). They have earned respect from the most demanding of
anglers, the guys hitting the long range 10-20 day trips. Calstar
blanks are the top choice among custom rod builders, because their actions
are right-on-the-money, and the quality and consistency is excellent.
Calstar Fishing Rods are uncompromising in terms of quality. That comes at a
price. But, for many anglers the price is worth the end result.
The end result is excellence, simply put.
Calstar's
founder Leon Todd has dedicated his life to building quality fiberglass and
composite fishing rods and blanks. From his early years at Roddy Rods, to
his days of designing rod blanks for California Tackle (Sabre) and now as
owner of Calstar, Leon's primary market has been the discriminating
saltwater angler. When anglers worldwide need the best, they come to Calstar.
Leon listens to his angling customers and makes changes and adds new models
to his line to continuously improve and provide the customer with the
product that meets their needs. Leon credits the many outstanding
professionals as well as thousands of fine anglers in the Southern
California area for their input and support.
CharkBait is
proud to offer our clients Calstar products, some of the finest fishing rods
money can buy. We're stocking both their Grafighter series and the
West Coast Series of factory built rods. As of the summer of 2009 we
also expanded, as did Calstar, with the introduction of the GG series of
rods. These feature graphite and 'glass construction, a less expensive guide
set than the Grafighters, but with similar benefits of blank construction.
The GG series is a little more affordable, and offer lighter weights than
the West Coast series of rods. We stock some blanks, and of course have
access to all blanks produced by this firm.

The
Grafighters are the new standard in fishing. They're made from both
fiberglass and graphite, throughout their length. The result is a
lighter stick, quicker responding, very good durability, and they
effectively help you fight a fish by virtue of their action. These
rods are triple wrapped, black blank with seafoam color wrap. The rods
feature stainless steel conventional guides or AFTCO rollers.
We're now including shipping on all
Calstar fishing rods, makes life a little simpler. If you're local to our
shop and don't require shipping, the price may be a bit less. Please
do not call the shop for the in-store price, we're not allowed to
quote prices by phone. You'll just have to drop over and check things
out. Rest assured, CharkBait's prices are the lowest possible.
We guarantee it.

Specialty rods in stock now!

The
West Coast Series is the gear that made Calstar's reputation. Great
actions, excellent durability, strength, and quality components throughout
the line. Of course all Calstar fishing rods carry a Lifetime
Guarantee and are "Made in the USA". If you're looking for a rod
you'll own and fish for a lot of years, you don't mind a moderate expense
but aren't looking to sacrifice your daughter's education funds, the West
Coast Series is your best choice. You'll love the rod and appreciate
it's many strengths, you'll also come to the realization that you've grabbed
a real value once you fish the rod.
The casting and spinning rods feature
stainless steel guides. The all roller rods use AFTCO components, while the
RS/RT rods use the AFTCO stripper and tip-top with Stainless rings for the
other guies. Fuji seats are used up to the all roller rods which feature
AFTCO seats.
The
West Coast series rods are available in honey or black with a seafoam green
wrap. The black versions are a little more expensive than Calstar's
traditional honey blanks. The all roller trolling rods are $30 more
expensive given their use of AFTCO black components.

Rod Socks
Our Chark-Sleeves are
a bit different than the one's above. They are
available in three sizes. The base of the
sleeve folds up onto the butt section of the
rod and then can be tied off. So, one size can
fit shorter rods with no problem. They are
made of 89% polyester and 11% lycra (like OJ's
gloves if you remember...). The material is
versatile, durable and quick drying. It's
super stretchy, and the micro polyester fabric
wicks away moisture - like those $60 golf
shirts. Nice product, nice price! These will
stretch up to one foot longer in length. So, a
5' will indeed fit a 6' rod, the 7 will
stretch to a tight 8.
Unsure which rod
fits your need? Send me an e-mail. We'll make sure
you're right on target.
*Free shipping for rods
7' or less within contiguous 48 states, Alaska
and Hawaii will run a bit more. Rods longer than
seven feet will carry an oversize rate expense
due to their length. We can not ship 9 foot
rods, they are only available at our shop.

Cork Puppy
A
lot of West Coast fishermen use deckhand style
rods, rods with a corktape grip wrap instead of
making use of a more typical reel seat with a
hypolon or cork handle. The corktape deckhand
rods are preferred by long-cast guys - jig
fishermen, and those desiring a longer rod and
longer casts. Additionally, the deckhand rods
allow the fisherman to mount the reel using a
rod clamp in a more custom, more comfortable and
balanced position, again aiding in longer casts.
One drawback of this type of handle/grip is that
the reel clamp tends to dig into the cork over
time. Applying that clamp's pressure over a
larger area reduces the grind on the cork and
allows for a more secure mount. The Cork Puppy
solves the mounting problem quite well. They fit
the majority of rods, and reels made. If your
intent is to mount a reel (that has a rod clamp)
to a deckhand rod, this product just might be a
necessity. There are three sizes, measured by
the rod's diameter in the area you intend to
mount the reel. It's made of machined 6061-T6
aluminum with type II anodizing.
