Three new 2012 reels from Okuma, the Krios
Komodo and Cedros baitcasters. These guys are on a big time
roll, from smaller baitcasters to the big guns, Okuma is
producing some of the best fishing products we've seen. I
sure wouldn't want to own stock in the bike company these
days, the sleeping giant woke up and they are introducing
more quality fishing gear than any other manufacturer.
Krios
For folks
looking for an affordable quality baitcaster, this Krios hits
the nail on the head. You've got some great features to
bring some added pleasure to your fishing. We've received
the Krios right hand retrieve reels, with lefties coming
soon. The new reel features a blazing fast 7.3:1 retrieve
rate, Alumilite construction with die cast aluminum frame,
A6061-T6 Machined aluminum spool and a multi-disk drag
system with micro-click adjustments. The new reel has plenty
of features to help folks new to baitcasters improve their
casting performance. Chief among those features is an
adjustable magnetic cast control system. You also have an 8
position internally ajusted centrifugal system. So, inside
and out, you can dial this reel in for exactly the type of
casting you need, and as you improve the reel can grow with
you to provide all the "freespool" performance anyone would
want. You've also got six ball bearings to assist that spin,
and a very comfortable handle. Nice new reels, very good
performance, and excellent values, all of 'em. The reels are covered by
Okuma's 1 year limited warranty.

Komodo 273
Taking things a notch up the quality ladder is the Komodo
KRD 273V. The Komodo features aluminum frame and
sideplates, CRC (corrosion resistant coating process),
with heavy duty aluminum gearing and shafts. It's made
from T-6 Machined aluminum with anodized spool, and offers
a multi disc Carbonite drag system for excellent stopping
power. You have a micro-click drag star for precise drag
settings, and 10 + 1 stainless steel bearings to maker her
spin. The Komodo features Japanese ABEC-5 bearings, with a
quick set anti reverse roller bearing. You also have a 7
position velocity control system - mechanical cast
control. Zirconium line guide inserts for use with
Spectra, an easy change left sideplate design for easy
servicing, and a 3 year warranty program from Okuma.

Cedros 273
Another step up the quality ladder in baitcasters, the
Cedros 273. You pick up an more rigid diecast aluminum
frame and sideplate assembly, with Titanium coating on the
sideplates to keep the reel looking good for years to
come. The entire reel takes advantage of Okuma's CRC
(corrosion resistant coating process), and the reel is
made from machined aluminum with anodized spool. The heavy
duty gears are machine cut, with Dura Brass gearing. The
Cedros features a unique stainless steel clutch slider,
with multi-disc drag star for precise drag settings. You
have the benefit of 6+1 precision Japanese ABEC 5 spool
bearings with quick set anti-reverse roller bearing
system. There's a 7 position velocity control system,
heavy duty aluminum handle design, allowing cranking
closer to your body. Combine that with durable EVA handle
knobs for comfort and you have a very nice piece for
inshore fishing. There's also an easy change left
sideplate for service ease, zirconium line guide inserts
for use with braided lines. The Cedors is specifically
designed for saltwater applications and it's backed by a 3
year warranty! Available in left and right hand retrieve.

Cedros Round
Baitcasters
 The
Cedros baitcasters offer a nice match to the needs of inshore anglers
looking for the round style (and extended line capacity) verses the
lower profile reels for inshore and light offshore work. High grade
components, strength and durability are the hallmarks of these workhorse
reels. They come in two sizes, a 250 and 400, made to optimize use of
"braid" with an always engaged levelwind to assure smooth even line flow
under all conditions. For near shore anglers, these are fine reels to

For 2012 Okuma
introduced their new Raw Series spinning reels. Unique to these high
drag capable reels is the new Dual Force Drag System. The DFD System
incorporates both surfaces of the spool to maximize high end drag
pressure, with efficiency and overall smoothness. Mounted in the top of
the spool, and protected by their Hydro Block system is a multi-disc
Carbon Fiber drag washer and stainless steel washer system that works in
conjunction with a secondary carbon fiber washer system mounted under
the spool. Even pressure is applied to both surfaces of the spool for
maximum stability and stopping power.

Okuma Trio
 I first saw this new spinner at the ICAST show in July 2009,
and thought at that time that Okuma had another winner on their hands. (They
really have turned things around from a few years ago in
terms of fresh ideas AND quality design and production).
Okuma made a cosmetic and slight refinement to the Trio in
2012, image reflects that. The
new Trio series offer high
drag capability, strong construction, made for Spectra,
unique aluminum/graphite hybrid-crossover construction and
priced right.
The reel utilizes graphite as well as aluminum to create a
new generation of reels - similar to what we're seeing on
some race oriented cars these days. This allows for high
strength as well as lighter weight by design.
All factors combine nicely to create a very interesting
series of reels.

Construction
Innovation at it's freshest...the new Trio spinning reels
from Okuma feature an unique crossover construction. They
took the best from aluminum construction and lightweight
graphite materials and created a distinctive new concept in
reel design. The solid one piece stamped aluminum reel stem
and rotor arm are paired with lightweight graphite
sideplates and rotor housing, which provide strength where
needed, and weight savings where possible. the Trio spool
construction utilizes a multi-piece construction, housing
the drag system in an aluminum drag chamber for added
stability and smoothness, while utilizing a lightweight
graphite housing for weight reduction and distinctive
styling.
