This West Coast firm has done so many things right, perfectly planned products, that are at the cutting edge of fishing innovation. The picture shows a few of the line products from Izor. They've long been the most popular line of dacron line on the West Coast. Out here during the winter season a lot of guys go for deep water rockfish. NEWEST LIMP CO-POLYMER FISHING LINE

Izorline has built a great reputation for their offshore fishing lines, from their First String TOUGH mono, the best Spectra on the market, as well as their accessory products. If there was one criticism of their mono, it was that it's fairly stiff and tough to work with on spinning gear. So, they did some re-formulation, using co-polymer technology to come up with a limper, slimmer product that's great for spinning tackle as well as conventional gear. The XXX mono from Izor casts great, has less memory and is more supple than their first string (and arguably any other mono). If you're using spinning gear, you'll love it. It casts great, and fishes even better. The new line is available in a light silver/gray or clear color, and is also under rated in terms of it's line test spec.

The XXX is fairly skinny in terms of diameter, it casts great, and like all the Izor lines, it gets bit. If you've never fished Izorline, give it a try. The long range guys love the stuff, we do too!

IZORLINE FIRST STRING and PLATINUM
PREMIUM CO-POLYMER FISHING LINE

Izorline produces two types of mono, their First String Offshore Blue and Clear copolymer fishing line and their Platinum Inshore Green copolymer line. Izor's fishing lines are reasonably pliant, but not nearly so soft like their leader material. The lines greatest strength is its' excellent abrasion resistance, low stretch, and extraordinary knot strength. These are a couple of the reasons the line is so well accepted long range. Well, better add the folks that simply like it because it does get bit! The Co-Polymer material contributes to Izor's qualities, but it's also considerably under-tested in it's spec. The line is very much stronger than the manufacturer's claims, across the board. Izor's 60# is quite frankly much similar to other manufacturer's 80#. It holds up quite well to abuse, and it's priced fairly.

For inshore anglers, Izor's Platinum copolymer green monofilament is simply the best bit green line on the market. It's been very well received by both the inshore saltwater fishermen and the freshwater bass guys. All Izorline First String and Platinum products are excellent. But if the intentions call for freshwater or inshore fishing, their Platinum Green is the way to go. Another dandy option is Izor's Hi Vis line. It will fluoresce under a black light, without one it will simply stand out - BIG TIME. It's a great option for guys running downriggers, trolling lines, really any application where you need to see and follow your line. It's made from the same durable high strength co-polymer mono as the Platinum Green lines from Izorline. One trick I'm seeing some sharp guys do is to run this as their mainline, then tie on a few feet of Fluorocarbon leader. You'll be able to easily watch your line, and the fish won't see what hooks 'em. It's a dandy technique for crowded party boats, that's for sure.

For offshore use, some folks are strong believers in using the blue line in strong sunlight conditions, then switch over to the clear when it's overcast or near dusk. I'm still trying to figure it out, but there are times when one line will get bit better than another. When you head out, consider doubling up on a line class just to give it the benefit of doubt. If you've never used Izor's mono, try a small spool and then you'll understand why it's gained such a following of loyal users.

Izorline SPECTRA

First on the list of great new product innovations from Izorline is their fantastic SPECTRA. This is the super line you've been hearing about, it's incredibly strong for it's diameter. It is redefining the way we think about fishing - both in terms of equipment and the potential for accomplishing things beyond our reach prior to it's introduction. Izorline's Spectra offers anglers some excellent benefits: it's incredibly strong, has a tiny diameter, and extremely long service life. While it's expensive, and for good reason (due to the manufacturing process), it will save you cash over the long run. What the long range fishermen discovered, was that they could use smaller gear, higher test strength, and still maintain excellent line capacity with this product. It's common for folks to use 300-500 yards of 50-80 lb. Spectra on a 16S, then put on a top-shot of 50-60 lb. mono, up to 100 yards, or more. Then when it's time to change the mono, keep the Spectra. By the third time, you've evened the cost differential. After the third line change, you are making money. And, you will find yourself using the same Spectra for well over EIGHT years! (I only say EIGHT, because that's the oldest we've been able to check - the stuff has been field tested by Izorline for eight years now). Spectra is another product designed for Space and Military application, that's now hit the consumer market. It's spaceage science in fiber construction. It is awesome stuff, well worth the money.

HOLLOW-CORE SPLICEABLE SPECTRA
This version of Izorline's great spectra product deals with the only negative I've ever encountered with the product. If you are planning on running heavy mono, like 130# to 200# stuff you are going to have some issues with standard size guides. There are two solutions, either go with pre made wind-on leaders or use the hollow core spectra and make your own wind on. Spectra is not as easy to work with in this regard as dacron, frankly it's a pain in the keester since you really need to insert the mono way up into the Spectra and still whip the line every 6" to 1'. Izor's standard 135# Spectra (listed above) is hollow-core. So, you can use it for making wind on style connections if desired. The primary reason Izor went with the hollow product for 135# is the fact that the line will lie down flatter for higher capacity winding.

IZORLINE TOP-SHOTS
Well, as we've come to expect, here's another great idea from Izorline. They've just introduced pre-made Top-Shots! Use these leader coils to quickly and efficiently attach mono leader to your Spectra. The only knot you'll need to tie is the Bimini Twist at the termination of your Spectra. Then just use the pre-tied Spectra loop from the new Izorline Top-Shot to quickly get ready for action. The Top-Shots come with Izorlines First String mono or fluorocarbon leader in various tests and lengths, attached to a sure grip dacron loop for making your connection to your Spectra's bimini. Another nice feature of this product lies in it's flexibility. You can use various leader tests, without going through the bother of retying line. In our way of thinking these are a luxury purchase for most of us. But, if you're running heavier line, especially the case for abraison reasons (like the 2005 Cow Circus held off Mag. Bay by the long range boats in November...) the use of 135-150# mono was required. A long topshot would never have worked with the sardine bait, and the termination connections were too large for a lot of the roller-guide rods used. So, the loop system was a great alternative and it was VERY reliable with no fish lost because of connections.

IZORLINE LEADER COILS

Izorline has been quietly broadening and improving their offerings. I'm really only scraping the top off the barrel in terms of their full product line - (but, the stuff I do stock is certainly the cream). I recently began getting more and more requests to do rigging for clients. So, I've played around with a bunch of different leader materials. Izorline's leader coils have a lot of qualities I've come to appreciate.

Izorline's leader material is very pliant, has the least memory of the lines I've used, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. They produce both a clear and blue leader, in 50 yard coils. This is the best value in leader material available.

IZORLINE FLUOROCARBON LEADER COILS

Izor's Fluorcarbon leader is 100% FL, not a coated line. It's packed in shorter spools than PLine's product, so simple price comparisons aren't quite fair. I've used both products now, and I can honestly say that I like 'em both. Maybe with some more time I can come to a conclusion about which is best, but at this point I'm simply a fan of both. Fluorocarbon line will improve your chances of getting picked up under many fishing circumstances. That's the consensus of opinion by both the long range fisherman and even folks focusing on freshwater species. The lighter lines have really been getting a lot of attention by the fly fishermen for leader material (altghough we're talking 2-4# lines). The products very well proven. Try it, you'll like it.

IZORLINE PREMIUM DACRON

The finest in braided line, for trolling and bottom fishing. California's most popular and most used spliceable braided line with exceptional low-stretch properties that really helps you put the power to the hook. Just as Izorline has defined the art of producing the finest Spectra product, they also produce an excellent dacron line. For bottom fishing, well it's not Spectra, but it doesn't cost quite like the Spectra does either. And, prior to the advent of Spectra Dacron was the top of the line for deep, bottom fishing, and for sharking.

Since I brought up sharking... The use of Izorline's Spliceable Dacron is the preferred line material for both trolling and bait. The Spliceable product allows you to easily rig up "wind-on" leaders that flow through your guides. This style of setup also provides you with less stretch for better hook sets, and greater line capacity (since the Dacron is thinner than mono).
