Berkley Gulp

Berkley recently introduced a line of soft baits that have proved quite successful.  We gave them some time to prove their worth, and they have done just that for the folks targeting inshore fish.  The folks at Berkley state, "It's been nearly 20 years in the making by the best fish heads in the business. Chemical engineers. Fish behavior specialists. Bio experts. There were tens of thousands of lab tests. Field tests. Testing with top pros and grassroots anglers. The results speak for themselves. On average, Gulp! caught significantly more fish than plastics and live bait! That's because Gulp! appears completely natural to fish, and releases over 400 times more scent than plastic baits. This scent trail is so intense, fish sense it from much farther away - even farther than live bait. That means more bites. And more fish."  Sounds like they might just be something worth playing around with at the dock or the back of the boat.  Some of our surf-casters have also mentioned some good success.  Certainly these new lures do "match the hatch" with respect to resembling natural forage critters like blood worms, shrimp and crabs.  The use of scent is a plus too!

We've added more Saltwater Gulp products to our mix. Berkley has added some productive variations to their line-up, now including some swimbaits (Pogys) and Cut Bait. The Cut Bait measures 2 1/4" x 7 1/2" with a two colored front and back. The Pogys also have a contrasting counter shade 

The Cut and Pogy baits are usually favored by guys fishing inshore, though they can have some wider application based upon your particular style and local conditions. The Strip/Cut bait measures 2 1/4" x 7 1/2" in length. The Pogys are available in 3" and 4" lengths, 8 and 4 per bag respectively.

A lot of guys like drop-shotting the smaller Gulp lures. It's a particularly effective technique for inshore fish, freshwater and saltwater, and allows the lure to be presented in a very natural form. To aid in this style of presentation we have secured some excellent quality specialty weights that feature an eye that also has a narrow taper at the top to allow you to pinch the line at a fixed distance from the lure. These are the nicest dropshot weights I've come across and will be a real blessing for folks fishing the surf.
