I'm
an old freshwater bass guy, turned saltwater fisherman. So, I've
always had a hankering to fish plastics, crankbaits and
spinnerbaits. All those techniques proved productive in the
salt, especially when targeting calico bass, sandbass...pretty
much anything inshore. Unfortunately my freshwater spinnerbaits
didn't hold up so well. One fish and they were dust. Hook'em
makes a saltwater series of spinnerbaits made for what we
target, larger fish, bigger mouths, stronger pullers. The wire
is larger, construction better and hooks saltwater
friendly...and tough. These are some of the nicest spinnerbaits
you'll find, fresh or salt.
When to use 'em? Spinnerbaits offer the
fisherman the opportunity to cast with some distance, and work
the water a bit more slowly. If you are fishing around
obstructions, kelp, rocks, you'll probably be a bit surprised
that they'll avoid a lot of the hangups you'd experience with
most other types of lures. We have the lure rigged with
Willowleaf blades, and on the double bladed models one is gold
the other silver in color. They will prove effective for
yellowfin tuna, dorado, yellowtail, corbina, white sea bass,
barracuda, sandbass, spotted bay bass and even wahoo!
