The Original Lipper
The ultimate catch & release tool!

Here's an exciting new product we discovered at the '04 ICAST show in Las Vegas. The Lipper is an updated version of the boga-style grip. It shares many common features, and several nice updates. The big improvement in my mind is that you can keep the jaws open without using any finger pressure. They lock open, and them release with the push of a button. The scale is engraved, in both kilo and pounds for measuring weight. There are two versions a 60# and 26# option. They're saltwater resistant and made from stainless steel. They also feature a larger handle for men with normal size hands...or bigger. The lanyard is a little larger, too. This is a nice device, well worth bringing along on a trip or having aboard your boat.

The manufacturer of the Lippers above recently came to market with some new products, that look to be homeruns. First off, they have an economy version of their Control, Weight and Release tool. These are available in 15#, 25#, 50# and 100# versions. They also have a 44# digital! Their 100# tool, besides being a great value, offers extended reach. It's about 36" in length! It features extra wide opening steel jaws, a 360 degree rotating shaft for ease of use. The EconoDigi 44 is a digital scale that's constructed of ABS impact resistant steel, water resistant, shuts off automatically, and is powered by 2 3 volt batteries.

ProFish Co. is the firm that brings us the updated Area Rule products, like the Ring-and-Grommets, Tu-Nobs, Door-Nobs... They make excellent gear, no doubt about it. Rapala Pro Guide Scales

Rapala recently introduced some new lip gripper scales. It's similar to another product that's been on the market for years (the Boga Grip). Rapala is larger firm, able to produce something like this at a better price while still providing excellent quality. Once you grab onto one of these you'll understand, this is a high quality instrument. Everything about it reinforces your impression of it's quality.

There are two small lock and weigh scales, in 20# and 60# versions, and a big Magnum 125# scale. the larger scale is about 3' in length, great for reaching over the side of most boats and lipping a catch. These scales are also IGFA certifiable, a very nice thing to have aboard a boat in case you make that catch of a lifetime.

Use the device to "lip" your catch, hold it up and check the weight, then pull back the triggers to release the fish. You'll easily be able to end the guesswork regarding a fish's weight.
