Upon placing  your order you'll receive an immediate confirmation via email. You are not billed at that time. We process orders manually, preferring to have a human actually check things over and contact you should there be questions. Within 24 hours of placing your order you will receive a follow-up email confirmation and final invoice reflecting your total charges (Monday-Friday). You are not billed until we actually send you your final invoice.  Orders shipped to CA addresses will have California Sales Taxes applied, out of state orders are tax free. Orders over $100 are shipped FREE!* Standard size/weight orders less than $100 are billed $8.50 for shipping. During the ordering process you can select expedited shipping if required. (Within the USA we ship via UPS ground. International, and oversize/weight items will be billed for shipping and you will be sent an emailed invoice reflecting total charges prior to actual billing. AFTCO Gloves

ROD BELTS AND HARNESSES

AFTCO offers a couple interesting products (perhaps in part based upon Smitty's popular designs). These are well made for long range and private yacht use, with very good construction, quality components and long term use.

The Clarion Fighting Belt is geared to 80# to unlimited tackle use. The super-thick, closed-cell EVA foam back pad is engineered to maximize both comfort and leverage. When the belt is positioned relatively low across the thighs, the load is distributed evenly for maximum pull when fighting a big fish stand-up style. The foam bak pad is co-molded to a gold anodized stamped aluminum front plate. They're super durable and feature posts at each side to accept Quick Clips which snap the belt straps for optional drop straps in place. The molded glass-filled nylon gimbal pocket is engineered to quickly guide rod butts into an optimum fish-fighting position. The gimbal pockets stainless steel pin is designed to be adjustable for horizontal or vertical orientation. It's a perfect match for AFTCO's MaxForce harness. It measures 19 inches wide by 13 inches high. And, to top things off, if it falls over it even floats!

The Socorro Fighting Belt is designed for 50-80# tackle applications. It features the same features and materials as the Clarion, for stand-up style fishing of moderate line tests. You can also use this smaller belt with the Maxforce harness.

Harnesses: The MaxFforce no doubt was based in part on the Smitty Spyder harness. However, there are some differences in terms of additional padding. Use the Maxforce with heavier gear, 60# up. The MaxForce use of lumbar and sit-in pads distributes the load below the hips, allowing the body to use maximum pulling leverage with good comfort under heavy drag loads.

AFTCO also makes a very nice shoulder harness for use with lighter lines in the up to 50# class. The lycra polyester covered bio-foam shoulder and back-band padding allows the load to comfortably be carried across the back of the angler and allows the load to be carried by the shoulders and upper body rather than arms alone. The Maxforce bucket harness allows you to use your legs and butt for leverage, the shoulder harness puts that load on the shoulders and back. One size fits all with these products.

AFTCO Kite

The fishing kite is an accessory more and more folks are using, whether fishing Long Range of from a private boat. Even shore fishermen can make good use of this technique. The kite improves your presentation by allowing you to keep your bait on the surface, splashing, being visible to predatory fish. It also gets the bait out, get it as far away from you as you want, get the bait out to where the larger fish are lurking. The state of the art fishing kites top all others in terms of performance and durability. Constructed from waterproof rip-stop nylon sail cloth, these low maintenance kites won't mildew and they'll fly even when wet! With interchangeable spars the kites can handle a wide range of winds, up to 16 MPH. Even without wind they can be slow trolled or drift fished by attaching a helium balloon to the kites special loops. You can even weight them to fly left and right so you can fish more lines, further out.

For boaters who have not run a kite, they're pretty simple devices. You fly the kite from a stout rod and reel. Short length rod, and low gear ratio reel (now you can use your heavy duty electric reels or big rockcod reels you put away after the closures...). Use a Goldfinger or Outrigger Roller release clip attached to the kite line. You'll pay out line from your Kite reel and another angler should pay out line from your fishing rod/reel, keeping the bait splashing on the surface as your line/bait/kit move out from the boat. Once you've let out line sufficiently for your taste (expected fish range) the guy handling the kite can go back to fish'n and the kite angler's job is to maintain the proper position of the bait, on the surface splashing away and getting noticed. Often anglers using this method will use a fairly heavy rig, with Spectra and about 25-50 meters of mono, at most. This helps with hookset, since you'll really want to drive in your hook once contact is made. Stretch is a disadvantage. Once bit, quickly reel down to the fish. The line will come off the clip and with the direct feel / no stretch quality of spectra, tightening down will likely set your hook - but you've got to move quickly and crank fast.

DOWNRIGGER / PLANER / OUTRIGGER AND FLAT LINE CLIPS

AFTCO's Roller-Troller Clips are "the kind." They feature a roller that's easy on your line and allows you to let out more line as needed without resetting the clip. The roller trollers come with a snap swivel for attaching to a cleat or a planner/downrigger. They also manufacture the same basic clips for use with outriggers. You'll be most pleased using these clips with lines of 40 lb. or greater test. These clips are not for the lighter line, use the pressure pad type clips from Scotty, Offshore or Cannon instead when using 30 lb. and less. The roller-trollers serve as an excellent flat line clip, the best on the market. Other uses may dictate other styles, such as the Goldfinger clips. These use wire instead of the roller and are often used as a less expensive outrigger clip, kite fishing and with downriggers.

The AFTCO clip is great for running medium to heavier lines.
