under re-construction...

We're in the process of updating this section of CharkBait.  The new enhancements will make ordering easier and make use of a "shopping cart" format.  Pages with the rectangular CharkBait logo have been updated, the round logo appears on older pages in the process of revision.  The ordering systems do not work together to form your shopping cart, only the new pages offer that function. Don't worry, if both pages are submitted we'll catch it, and as always you'll receive an email with your invoice prior to shipment.

(2) Now you'll need to enter your billing information.  Use the Back command on your browser, and click here to Submit Your Billing/Shipping Info.   That will take you to a new screen where you can enter your billing information securely.

Alternatively you can call in your order at @ 714-846-6452, long distance and out of state users please go for the toll free line 1-800-823-4243, fax @ 714-840-5601. While you can reach us anytime by phone, if you'd like to talk to Mark personally please call before 9:30 AM or after 4:30 PM CA time.  Or should we say, if you'd prefer to talk to Elaine or Beth call after 10 AM.

Increasingly, CharkBait has been requested to help outfit clients for their Long Range trip out of San Diego or Cabo, fishing the rich Mexican waters for huge yellowfin, wahoo and other magnificent creatures.  These trips test one's gear and stamina to the limits, and have some pretty specific tackle requirements.  It's a unique style of fishing, especially for those accustomed to fishing from their private boat in the Gulf or South Eastern waters.  You don't have the option of following a fish around to tire it, you're fishing from a fixed location, perhaps even anchored.  You've got to have gear that can handle a high test line and extraordinary drag pressure and associated component stress.  Line capacity is a very real concern, hence the reliance on Spectra line - specifically Izorline's Spectra (the Spectra product that's been on the Long Range boats for over 8 years now). Having the right equipment is mandatory for this type of fishing.  The following recommendations are consistent with outlines provided by the best Long Range operations, and include some things our clients have suggested based upon their own experiences.  The following guidelines are consistent with current consensus of opinion.

Rods and Reels
There are a lot of rod/reel combinations out there that may fit these categories of tackle.  I'm only listing those products that have earned the greatest recommendations based upon use within the environment of a LR trip.  There's other good gear out there certainly, and we all have our favorites.   Especially in terms of rods, there are some personal variations and preferences that can sway the ballance towards other selections.  But, all in all, these are the standards recommended for use on a Long Range trip, and they're experienced passengers.

#5 Specialized - Wahoo Jigs/Bombs - 50# (mono*)
Newell 533 5.5:1 gears & Seeker 6465H, 6470
-------TIP - load a different color line on the reels at 40-50# line.  If you usually are using clear, go with a blue/smoke or pink on   rig #4,5 or 6. Keep one clear, but try some color on your other similar test rigs.   There are days when this really is a worthwhile advantage.

#6 Moderate - Bait/Chunk - 50# (50# top, 50-80#back)
Penn 16S*, Penn 30T & 30S, 6/0, Newell 500 Series, Accurate TDR12; Seeker 660H, 655XH,

Penn 50S, 50SW, Accurate TDR 50 & 50W; Seeker 6455XXH AR, 663XXH AR

#9 Kite & Heavy Troll - 100# (100 top/150 back)
Penn 50sw,  80S, 80STW,  Accurate TDR 80W; Seeker 6463XXXH R/OG

In the case of all of the heavy rigs and several of the lighter set-ups I strongly suggest the use of Izorline Spectra. Please send me a note and we can go over the line options and rigging, but trust me, it's great stuff, and Izor's product has earned the recommendations of most experienced anglers and boat operators.
* Typically a mono load is used for these tests, but one can make a good case for going with  Spectra backing on these rigs.  The #4 rig would benefit from 50# Spectra w/mono topshot, for sure.

Lots of things to consider.  You'll need some good deck boots, tackle storage gear, sunscreen, fighting belts & harness, leader, a towel, hat... Give us a call, and we'll discuss your trip.

EXtra Tuf and Izor's Viking and  Boots

Yep, deckhands are all the same...when it comes to relishing washing down the decks and soaking guys wearing sneakers.  Get some darn boots! Frustrate the pinheads! Keep those tootsies toasty and dry in the comfort of some quality deck boots.  Izor's Viking boot is the best value in fishing footwear, and the Extra Tuf boot (brown in the picture) is the choice of many long rangers.  Both are excellent products, and will last a long, long time.  For our clients with wet climates, you'll get a double dose of use from these finely crafted products.

Extra Tuf @ $49.95 (reg. $59)
Izor Viking Boots @ $44.95 (reg. $49)
Please select size:

Have an extra wide foot?  Need something larger than a size 15?  We've got you covered.  Send back an email, we have a new boot from Izorline your feet will fit!

Here's a good luck shirt! Keep the sun off your arms, or keep a bit warmer in the morning with our Long Sleeve Tee.  Quality construction, excellent durability, and of course our distinctive logo on the front and back.  It's good to layer your offshore clothing, it's also good to cover a bit more and prevent something we all don't like to think about.  Skin cancer is a serious risk to outdoorsmen and women, overexposure is not a good thing.  So, consider the long sleeve a stylish health conscious act...that's also good for luck.

TLC Lure Cases

tlc1.gif (24192 bytes)The bags in the picture are my own...I've used TLC's lure bags for close to ten years - and the one's pictured are mine.  Simply put, they last.  These covers do not have drain holes, can withstand a saltwater environment and the corrosive spray associated with boating.  Their Velcro strap helps compress the cover into an efficient roll, easy to store.  The covers are available in either six or ten lure configuration, and feature several sizes for accommodating lures ranging from albacore to black marlin.

TLC Roll-up Lure Bags
