Catchy Tackle

Catchy is another So. Cal. firm that's making big waves with virtually all of their excellent new lures. In this instance, Catchy has brought back an old favorite Sea Strike Jigs.  They've updated the product as you'll see, but retained that old productive action.

Catchy Tackle brought back an old favorite, and made some nice improvements.  The shape is the same, nice swimming action, but the action is geared towards wahoo.  The lures are a bright chrome, on the flat side Catchy has added a prism finish in silver, blue, purple or red.  The lure's matched with a single siwash hook for better penetration.  They're about seven inches in length.  

These new jigs have been successfully fished on the long range scene.  Fact is, I heard about 'em backwards.  One of our clients contacted us about securing some.  He'd just returned from a trip on one of the San Diego based boats, saw first hand just how effective these guys can be.  So, we brought some into the shop for the fellow who called, and a few extra for us. Since that time they've proven their effectiveness with consistent, solid results landing wahoo and other gamefish.

We're stocking a pretty wide variety of the jigs, in productive patterns.  The lures on the left have a single siwash hook, the ones on the right offer a treble hook.  If you're going wahoo, take the single. Same for tuna.  For yellowtail and most bottom fish go for the trebles.

The Sea Strike jigs have proven themselves as wahoo catchers. Well, the guys from Catchy showed me another trick finish that's going to drive wahoo absolutely nuts. They are now making the 33 in a black chrome finish. This finish is expensive, the lure starts out as one of the gold one's above, then is double treated to achieve the durable black finish.

 

 

Black has long been a favored base color for attracting wahoo. I've seen the color work on lures and bombs for years, and add some chrome prism for flash appeal and you really have a winner. That's just what the guys from Catchy did, and I have to believe that this lure will be one of the most productive patterns for the long range season of '06. When you combine a terrific finish with a proven design, you've got a winner! If you're planning an extended long range trip this fall, or are a private boater lucky enough to fish in wahoo waters, take along a few of the black chrome as well as some of the gold 33's on your trip. They'll put some great tasting wahoo on the table for you.

Sea Strike Jigs from Catchy Tackle

Here's a nifty jig with the paint job the likes of which you've never encountered.  It's a pattern I'm sure Jerry Garcia might have dreamed about in his spare time...  The Sea Strike 33 Jig is a piece of iron that's withstood the test of time.  They're loved by folks grinding for yellowtail as well as the folks tossing for wahoo.  With this pattern I'm betting you'll find plenty of applications for a bunch of different species of fish.  Blue and white is a darn good pattern, and I've got to be willing to wager that this tie-died blue'n white will draw bites from a bunch of different kinds of fish from all sorts of places.  The 33 can be cast far and retrieved or worked yo-yo style on the bottom.  It's a darn effective iron, and this paint job will draw a lot of attention.  For sure other anglers are going to do a double take, and it's a good bet fish will too.

Here's yet another nifty new pattern from the Catchy folks, their infamous TieDied jigs in wahoo flavors! They're rigged the same, with single siwash hooks and colored for the wahoo bombers!

One side note, for wahoo there's a bit of a quandary. Do you rig with a short length of wire or go straight mono? Most will agree, straight mono seems to get bit better, but you run the risk of loosing some iron. A good compromise would be to rig a couple on 10"s of wire and then run your other jigs straight. Save the wire jigs for when/if you've been chewed off. They'll be your insurance policy.

New Catchy Wahoo Bombs!

Catchy Tackle has introduced a NEW wahoo bomb, and we've got 'em first! The new bomb weighs in at 4 ounces and comes rigged on wire cable  with a single hook (the preference for dealing with wahoo). The bombs also have a nice willow leaf spinner blade attached to a swivel on the hook for added attraction, and a Keeper above the jig to keep it from sliding up the line too far from the hook (a very good idea since the lure will tend to ride up the line after a cast as you let it descend a bit prior to ripping it back to the boat.

 

There are three variations to the lures. The standard chrome head version features a double skirt of flashy material. The Gold head and the Black Chrome head also feature an internal Newell Skirt. The Newell skirts are heavier, thicker, more durable and make the lure have a fuller presence when quickly retrieved. These bombs are going to be effective, and quite popular. Catchy did their homework prior to manufacture. The heads are typical Catchy quality, meaning EXCELLENT and DURABLE. Unlike the offshore produced stuff, these are well made and precision manufactured. The chrome platting is all much better and will prove much more durable. The Gold and Black Chrome heads are flawless and will prove well worth the money.
