If you've
followed us for the past year or so, you've noticed that we
are engaged in production of several of our own exclusive
design products. All have been of good quality and value
since we've eliminated one or two levels of "markup" being
the manufacturer or direct designer and producer ourselves.
As well, the designs typically represent our own experience with
existing products, thoughts of how to do 'em better based
upon our experience or those of our clients.
Our
Knife Jig is a piece of fishing art, very nice shape with
broad belly, narrower towards the head with a very durable
finish. The jigs are rigged at the nose with both a split
ring and welded ring. All you need to do is attach a good
quality assist hook, which we naturally offer. Your best bets in that
regard will be Owner, Gamakatsu, River2Sea and we still have
some ProFishCo assists in stock. (here's a link to
other assist
hooks, Owner, River2Sea, Gamakatsu, and ProFish Co.)
The shapes are
excellent, but so too are the colors. Useful ones that cover
the range you'll need for your fishing under varying
conditions and destinations. We stock this jig in two sizes,
160 and 190 grams (5.64 and 6.7 ounces, and 5" and 6"
respectfully).
This is a weight
rear shape providing a bit faster drop with a little
less flutter than our Knife. It has with excellent flash
on the drop and while jigged.
The shapes are
excellent, but so too are the colors. Useful ones that
cover the range you'll need for your fishing under
varying conditions and destinations. We stock this jig
in four sizes now, with the addition of a 350 gm size.
Lures are available in 100, 150, 250 and 350 gm sizes
(3.5 oz, 5.3 oz, 8.8 oz and 12.35 oz). The lures are rigged with both
split rings and solid rings on the nose. All you need to
do is attach a good quality assist hook and you're set
for some great deep water action.
NEW SIZE -
We've added a heavier 350 gm (12.3 oz) size to the line
up for deep water jigging.
For those who follow
some of the boards, or even search some nameless auction
website, you might find these vaguely familiar, like a
7 Seas jig that has been sold for something like $30
or more. Please do compare what we are offering, and get
'em before their price gets bumped up. They are on an
introductory special! We're trying to get the word
out about what we're doing with our line of lures,
they are a dandy value.
Well,
we have quite a few excellent shapes for
bottom fishing, jigging applications, but this
one adds a rather unique and effective wrinkle
to the mix. Our Illuminata takes the knife jig
to a different plane by adding even more fish
attraction to the mix. These new and well proven lures
have a space in the body where you can add a
small light stick to further attract a bite.
For deep water fishing, this additional
attraction will ensure that your jig gets
noticed, it will make a difference in your
catch rate. The lures have luminescent bellies, but
there's nothing like the green glow of an
internal light stick to really turn on an
otherwise lethargic predator. Each lure comes
with three long lived light sticks, and we
have additional light sticks available at a
very attractive price. One thing you'll
appreciate, these top quality light sticks
will glow for up to 12 hours time! (And in all
honesty, we've had some glow for two days!) Our Illuminata lures are available in two sizes,
100 and 200 grams (3.5 & 7
ounces) in three colors at present: silver
prism, blue dorado and green. Lures have a
welded ring as well as quality split ring
attached to the nose.
CharkBait
Assist Hooks
To
properly rig your lures we also offer some
excellent assist hooks, in four sizes and
two lengths. Our hooks are rigged for
strength, using 180# test Dynema woven
fishing line for zero stretch and increased
test strength. We offer these hooks in 5.6
and 8 mm lengths and four sizes featuring
quality Mustad 10827 series hooks in 4/0,
5/0, 7/0 and 9/0 sizes. The hooks are packed
three per bag. Just like our jigs, you'll
find our pricing and quality more than
competitive.
CharkBait's
Ultimate Assist Hooks New Products
We've
stepped up the designs, and added four more
styles of assist hooks to now provide a VERY
extensive assortment of quality assist hooks
for deep water jigging. Our first assist
hooks used a very good quality Mustad hook.
For our Ultimate series of assists we've
taken things to a different level, and we've
got something no one else has considered
providing anglers. All hooks are rigged on
180# Dynema braid, and supplied 3 rigs per
pack.
Our new Assist hooks
use two different versions of hooks both
made by VMC.
The first more traditional design uses their
7262BN super strong tuna hook, a black nickel 4X hook from their
Ultimate Performance series of saltwater
hooks. These are made from Vanadium steel -
25% stronger than carbon steel. It has a
forged short shank, with a needle cone point
which is reversed, offering greater
penetration with less opportunity to cut
it's way out of a fish's mouth. It's a step
up from the Mustad, which is also an
excellent hook. In this style of hook we run
3 sizes, 2/0, 4/0 and 6/0 in both standard
and, for extra attraction, luminescent
form. Both styles are available in long and
short lengths, 5.6 and 8 centimeters (2.2
and 3.15 inches respectively).
Our
second style of hook features VMC's 8382TR
series hooks. These are larger hooks,
running 6/0, 8/0 and 10/0 sizes! This is a
red tin coated Circle Hook, again of forged
design and 3X strength. It's made with
Vanadium steel, reversed cone-cut point to
ensure perfect penetration beyond the barb
of the hook. The red coating provides extra
attraction. So, why a circle? There are a
few reasons, and surprisingly no one else is
providing this style of hook that I'm aware
of. Circle hooks were most commonly used in
the commercial fishing industry. Their great
benefits being that fish are hooked at the
corner of the mouth so there's less chance
of pulling the hook out during an extended
struggle or fight. Fish tend to set the hook
themselves as they move away from the bait
or lure. Rather than a fish "spitting" a
hook, they end up hooking themselves - and
stay on the hook. If the fish grabs
the lure on the upswing of the rod, while
jigging, yes you could indeed pull the hook
away from the fish, but if the fish targets
your lure on the drop, they'll set the hook
themselves and stay hooked even at greater
depths. That's the reason commercial guys
use 'em. There are reasons to run a J style
hook, AND there are reasons to run circles.
That's my opinion, and based upon user
feedback we'll see if my thoughts play out.
I believe that when we are talking tuna
jigging, the benefits of the circles will
make themselves quite apparent. Like the
Black Nickel design mentioned above, these
hooks are available two ways: luminescent
dressed and standard undressed form, and in
both short and long lengths. The "dressed"
hooks are SUPER, and frankly they are so
darn good I'd bet you dollars to donuts that
they'll get bit by themselves, they are that
nice.
While ordering please note the hooks are
available in both luminescent "dressed" and
standard form, in two length options.
Poor
little octopus, intelligent, curious, and
sadly delicious to both man and predatory
fish. Well, our jigging critter is hands down
the best looking such lure on the market. Look
at the darn thing, it's shape, realistic eyes,
rigging options and weight balance coupled
with some very nice Mustad hooks makes this
the must have in this type of productive
bottom fishing lure. There are several styles
now on the market, some reel manufacturers
getting into the mix, Braid, many others, but
I have to say this is the nicest I was able to
find produced, and that's why we brought it to
market. We offer our Tako in four color
patterns and two sizes, 60 and 100 gram (3.5
and 2.1 oz). Please notice the extra
attachment points on the head of the lures,
they allow you to "stack" these productive
lures for added weight and added chance at
catching deeper water fish.
No idle boast, I do
sincerely believe that if you closely look at
these lures and compare them to any other
similar design on the market, you'll agree
that these are the best produced jigs of their
type available, and easily can be sold for 50%
higher prices. Since we bring them to market
ourselves, we pass along that savings and
provide a superior product for a much better
value.
CharkBait's
Newest Tako for
2012
-New Deep Water Octopus for Jigging
We
are revising our line of Tako lures for 2012,
and they've arrived a bit earlier than
expected. The finish is a nice upgrade from
our original series, a tad more expensive, but
the finish and skirting is a nice upgrade from
our original and quite effective series of
lures! While we have stock, we will offer both
versions, but the original models are limited
in quantities and will be phased out and
replaced by the new series. We just got lucky
and received the new ones ahead of schedule.
Our
Slash jig can be fished a couple ways, for great
effect. For our long range fishermen, it's a
GREAT wahoo lure. For deepwater enthusiasts it's
a deep water tuna jig with excellent action on
the drop and wind. Having said that, the thing
casts great and we rig it properly with a higher
quality Mustad hook and a ball bearing swivel
(ours even points the right way...) attached
with welded rings. Our colors and finish are top
quality. While it will bring in wahoo when they
are around, don't be afraid to jig it for tuna
and yellowtail. If your fishing trip heads to
Alijos you've got a great wahoo lure, but if it
shifts gears and moves to Cedros fine, you've
got the right lure for yellowtail. If instead
you hit the banks for rockfish, you've still got
an effective lure on your hands. One lure, fits
a few applications, and a few different styles
of fishing.
Our slash bait is
available in FIVE sizes: 80 gm, 2.8 oz, 5" 100 gm, 3.5 oz, 5 1/2"
150 gm, 5.29 oz, 6 1/2" 300 gm, 10.6 oz /180mm, 7" 400 gm, 14.11 oz /200mm, 8"
This versatile
lure can be fished several ways, cast and
retrieve, vertical yo-yo style jigging,
and speed jigging. There is a very slight
curve to the lure, allowing a bit more
action on the drop and as the lure is
bounced up. It's important to keep a good
contact on the lure if you're fishing
yo-yo style for a couple reasons. First,
you won't know you've been bitten unless
you've got contact with the lure, secondly
the lure can foul itself if you don't
offer some control of its accent or
descent.
Based upon client feedback, we've expanded
this series of lures. Now we have two new
LARGE size jigs to add to the assortment.
The new 300 and 400 gram sizes are perfect
for dealing with better grade tuna when
they're holding deep. Of course they'll
also do a number on yellowtail and wahoo
if you need to go down to get 'em. Given
the deeper water application, we've added
our Illuminata feature, the new LARGE size
jigs have a recess for use of a 4.5mm
light stick. Go deep, get noticed and
get bit!
Banana
Jigs for deep water are effective, super
effective lures. Their shape allows for a nice
swim on the drop, and they'll take a wide
range of gamefish - a very wide range. Some
use them to great effect on tuna, yellowtail,
and of course there's no rockfish that won't
jump on 'em, same for ling cod. We've made our
Banana jigs in three finishes, chrome, gold
and luminescent glow, and they're available in
five sizes:
60 gm / 2.1oz /4",
100 gm / 3.5
oz / 5",
200 gm / 7 oz /6",
300 gm / 10.6 oz / 6 1/2",
400 gm /
14.1 ounces / 7".
Compared to similar lures on the
market, we've upgraded the hooks used on our
jigs. We run a single Mustad hook on the
smallest size and 3X Mustad black chrome
trebles on the larger sizes. All hooks are
attached by way of split ring, and we add a
swivel to the nose of the lure to deal with
line twist. Nice lures folks, I'm sure you'll
agree the first time you see 'em and even more
certain once you fish 'em. Given they're our
own production, the pricing is very user
friendly, as well.
For our long range
anglers, or those on the East Coast targeting
larger grade tuna, consider rigging up the
200, 300, or 400 gm size lures with single
hooks of appropriate strength. Certainly the
go-to lure color in this regard, for those
times when the fish are holding deep, is the
luminescent banana, though the chrome or gold
will prove effective in their own right. The
lumo is a personal favorite of mine, however.
We offer single hook rigging as an option
below. This makes a very effective alternative
to a Salas PL68.
Please note, on a deep
drop, keep control of the jig and do not
simply drop her overboard in freespool. The
head of these lures weigh more than than the
butt end, so there is a potential of a tangle on
the main line if you do not have control on
the drop. As a sidenote, chances are you'll
more likely get bit on the drop if you take
your time getting there.
- As good as our new lures
are, in all honesty, these lights can make them even more
effective as we have discovered ourselves, and from the
feedback we've received from folks purchasing an Esca
light. They are truly effective, they will make any
deepwater jig more productive, even ours.
ESCA I first came across this product at
ICAST several years ago. I was very much interested, but at that point
there was no way for me to bring the piece into this country. They're
based in Norway, and it would have been a pain in the keester to import
'em. I've been following them ever since, and fishing the sample they
provided me. They also had some growing to do, earn their USA patent...
We are now pleased to be able to offer this unique product to our
clients. The Esca fish attractor utilizes light and electro-magnetic
influences to attract gamefish. It can improve the performance of all
lures, imitates natures own lure lights, and adds life to lures and
bait. While the piece can be used as a lure, it truly shines best by
treating it as an attractor. Our first batch of Esca's will have a
treble hook attached, but in the future the hook will go away. Probably
half or more folks who purchase these devices will discard the hook
anyway and rig them to their own preference based upon specific
application.
There
are four different styles/types of Esca attractors. The devices emit
either green or blue light, and that light is either a constant fade
or blinking/strobe. They are powered by saltwater itself, and will
work for up to 100 hours of fishing time - no batteries involved.
The best use for the Esca device is to use them as an add-on to your
existing lures. They have proven very successful for folks targeting
swordfish, all types of deeper water rockfish, and most recently
billfish. (They were used in several tournaments last year to great
effect) The Esca replicates the wavelength, intensity and frequency
of light emitted by different types of fish and plankton - the
manufacturer refers to this as the "pulse of life!" They also create
an electromagnetic field that triggers the hunting instincts in
fish. Fish will bite, and bite harder! The Esca will improve the
visibility of your lures and tackle, improving your odds at getting
bit.
Esca attractors weigh 7 grams.
They can be used by themselves as a small jig, but they are really
best used together with spinners, jigs, iron, and bait. You can rig
them inside soft bodied squid skirts, inline, with deep diving lures
and with trolling lures.
