Like last year the folks first hooked up at Benitos for yellowtail
of good quality and quantity (255 YT), then the second day fished
Guadalupe yellowfin. The yellowfin had been chewing almost as if
on a dinner bell. They'd not bite early or late, a mid-day
thing. You'd see 'em boil, but they would not eat until they
felt the urge later in the day. They folks landed fish up to 72
pounds, not as big as last year's 124# jackpot winner, but still a
good quantity of decent size yellowfin (55 YFT). On the way back
up to San Diego the boat made some troll stops for yellowfin, searched
out kelp paddies for additional opportunities for dorado (10). Nice
trip, nice ride, great food and limited loads!
One point to remember, on this charter we had three guys who
cancelled, two the day prior to departure. Understandably, the
boat requires payment for this trip up front and it's going regardless
of whether you go or not. We can handle a cancellation within a
month's time, but closer to departure refunds are only possible if you
or we can arrange someone to substitute for you. So, three guys
couldn't go, and it was already a limited load trip @25 passengers
aboard a 100' long range sportfisher. So, in this case, 22
fisherman had plenty of rail time on a nice big boat!!!
