2010 Charters: Recap Red Rooster III - 4 Day Charter

Jeff Lambert got to go on the trip this year taking my spot on the trip. Jeff's been working his tail off, helping at the shop, opening our new San Diego store and doing most reel repair work here, as well.  Yep, he needed a few days to go fishing on one of our nicest charters, and enjoy himself aboard my favorite Long Range boat. (That's no knock against any other of the long range fleet. It's just that the RRIII feels a lot like home to me, and a lot of the folks that ride this boat have the same feeling).

This year on our Red Rooster 4 day charter we had a some real nice fishing. We loaded up a little early Saturday and got on our way down to Benitos. We arrived later the next day and had some good yellow tail fishing, they were biting well on the yo yo iron and fly lining live bait with a few surface iron fish. At sundown on Sunday we cruised over to Cedros and that night we made plenty of squid for the next day. Waking up early the next morning was well worth it, 2 white seabass were caught around 4:30 AM on dropper loop with squid. From then on it was wide open yellow tail (25-35 pounds) on dropper loop until the sun came up. Throughout the day we had steady fishing again with yo yo iron and live bait. I found the yo yo iron to be most effective to get out away from the boat and the seals. On our way back we did some trolling off shore with not much luck but we were able to pull a few more nice yellows off the patties. Over all everyone had a great trip with plenty of fish to go around. If you ask me I cant think of a better way to spend 4 days!
